We have a local filmmaker here in our Valley that has an amazing project in the works. Please have a look. Here is some of what he told me this morning about his project.
Check out the Kickstarter and be part of something massively important for the northwest culture!
By far the most ambitious project i have ever taken on , i have already met with representatives of the yakama tribe and steps have been taken to ensure this is as historically, culturally and musically accurate as possible!
Principal photography has started and work has begun on the script. Casting director is Marcus Swan, who i believe not only has the knowledge and passion to benefit this project, but also has connections to well known native American actors being considered for roles!
My brother Yrneh Kcela is co producer and cultural/musical consultant for the project, with experience at KYNR 1490 in toppen*sh for 14 years working with traditional yakama music, and dedicating another large portion of his life to not only recording and performing traditonal yakama music, but also preserving traditonal yakama songs makes him the perfect fit for this project!
Ive talked to Leon Thompson, who most people know because of the massively popular Tribal Funktions he has brought to the valley, and he is currently working to bring the first ever "Northwest Indigenous Music Awards" to the northwest, and he is excited to bring his expertise to the project!
A grant specifically for films about events that have shaped the northwest has been applied for, and kickstarter itself is showcasing short films all the month of march called "Long Story Short" , and i have applied to be showcased in that. Any help from anybody, financially or creatively is more than welcome. Thank you for all your support!
