Abilities First is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization serving the needs of over 1,300 children and adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities from preschool through adulthood throughout the Hudson Valley. Founded in 1962, Abilities First is a not-for-profit organization serving the needs of the community, as well as those with developmental disabilities, from pre-school through adulthood. Abilities First has had a long-term commitment of providing a cohesive culture of compassion, empowerment and respect for people with a variety of disabilities through educational, vocational, residential and habilitation services.

The Circle of Friends Day Habilitation site has been filled with holiday cheer as our friends enjoyed festive crafts and a special visit from Santa! 🎨🎄🎅

From painting handmade ornaments to sharing smiles and photos with Santa, these joyful moments are made possible by our dedicated, supportive staff, who work every day to create meaningful, happy experiences—especially during the weeks leading up to the holidays.

Thank you to our incredible team for bringing creativity, connection, and joy to each day, and for making the season bright for everyone at Circle of Friends.

We were honored to welcome New York State Office for People With Developmental Disabilities Commissioner Willow Baer for a visit to several of our Abilities First Day Habilitation and Without Walls (WOW) programs.

It was a wonderful afternoon spent touring our sites and sitting down for a meaningful conversation about the impact of community-based, person-centered supports. Joining the tours and discussion were members of the Abilities First Executive Team, including Dr. Jeffery Fox, President & CEO, Program Directors, and Board Member Mike Oates.

Thank you to Commissioner Baer and her team for taking the time to connect with staff and see firsthand how Abilities First supports individuals to build skills, independence, and meaningful community connections every day.

Who still believes in Santa? — WE DO! 🎅❤️

Our friends in our Day Habilitation and Without Walls (WOW) programs had a very special visit from Santa, spending time together, sharing smiles, and sharing their holiday wishes.

Moments like these remind us that joy, imagination, and connection don’t have an age limit. A heartfelt thank you to the Foundation for Abilities First NY for helping make these magical, inclusive moments possible and bringing extra cheer to our programs this season.

Mid-Hudson Valley Federal Credit Union delivers — literally! 💙 While touring our schools and programs with Kristi, the team noticed an immediate need for essentials like clothing and undergarments. Without hesitation, Kathleen stepped in, secured funds, and went shopping to support our students!

Santa made a joyful stop at the Myers Corners Education Center, and our friends were absolutely glowing with holiday excitement! 🎅✨ These magical moments don’t happen on their own — they’re made possible by the incredible staff who bring so much heart and care to every visit.

A huge thank you to the “special elves” from Mid-Hudson Valley Federal Credit Union for helping Santa spread cheer, and a heartfelt appreciation to the Foundation for Abilities First NY for providing these unforgettable, inclusive holiday experiences for our students and families.
