Libraries are more than just books—they’re spaces for learning, exploration, and access to a wide range of perspectives. 📚

For those looking to learn more about autism, one meaningful place to start is by reading works created by autistic authors. These voices provide valuable insight, lived experiences, and perspectives that help deepen understanding and promote acceptance.

A great resource to explore is Autism Books by Autistic Authors, which highlights a wide range of books written by autistic individuals across different ages and experiences.

Taking time to learn from these voices is one way we can continue building a more inclusive and informed community.

Do you have a favorite book or author you’d recommend?

I regret to inform everyone my career as an autism advocate was actually predetermined at birth. 😅

I was literally born on World Autism Awareness Day.
And like, statistically, that’s wild.

But on top of that, I was diagnosed with autism in 2007,
which just so happens to be the year Autism Awareness Day got officially recognized.

For those of us who live this life year-round, April can feel… annoying.

The world pauses to have conversations about autism…conversations WE don’t get to walk away from when the month ends.

And by May 1st, most people have conveniently forgotten what was said.

Simultaneously, there’s endless infighting about what April really is - autism “awareness” or “acceptance.”

And I’m not willing to argue about it, so I’ll leave you with this:

Awareness increases with time,
understanding increases with effort,
and acceptance requires both.

Anyway, Happy Autism Month to all who celebrate! 🩵

Today is World Autism Day and International Children’s Book Day 💙

We invite our staff, families, and community to join us by wearing blue or autism acceptance/awareness gear to show your support.

Autism is not one-size-fits-all—and neither is support. Today is a reminder to celebrate individuality, promote understanding, and continue creating spaces where autistic individuals feel supported and included.

One meaningful way to build understanding is through stories. 📚 Books that include autistic characters help children develop empathy, see different perspectives, and feel represented.

We’re sharing a few of our favorites—what books would you recommend?
If you’re participating today, we’d love to see it—feel free to share your photos with us 💙

Autism Acceptance Month is a time to move beyond awareness and into understanding, inclusion, and meaningful support. 💙

At Gateway, we recognize that every autistic individual is unique—with their own strengths, needs, and ways of experiencing the world. Acceptance means meeting individuals where they are, honoring their communication, and creating environments where they feel safe, supported, and valued.

Throughout this month, we’ll be sharing resources, perspectives, and ways to support autistic individuals and their families. While we’ve recently shared valuable information from resources like TheSpectrum.org, we’ll continue building on that by highlighting real-life applications, perspectives, and ways to support in everyday settings.

We encourage our staff, families, and community to join us—whether that’s through learning, sharing, or simply showing support.

Let’s continue working toward a more inclusive and understanding community together.

Why work at Gateway ABA Therapy?

Because how we provide care matters.

At Gateway, our work is rooted in trauma-assumed care and assent-based practices. We believe in creating an environment where clients feel safe, respected, and heard—and where clinicians feel supported, valued, and empowered to grow.

If you’re looking to be part of a team that prioritizes ethical, compassionate, and meaningful care, we’d love to connect.
