March 17 is recognized as Profound Autism Day.
This day brings attention to autistic individuals/individuals with autism who have the highest support needs and often require lifelong, around-the-clock care. Profound autism is often characterized by minimal or no language, significant intellectual disability, and the need for continuous support with daily living and safety.
While autism exists across a broad spectrum, individuals with profound autism and their families often face unique challenges that are not always visible or widely understood.
Today we recognize and honor:
• Individuals with profound autism
• Their families and caregivers
• The professionals who support them
• The importance of continued research, services, and advocacy
Every individual deserves to be seen, supported, and included.
