Betty Allen passed away peacefully in Middleburg, FL on Monday, January 19, 2026 after a lengthy illness. Per her wishes, she was at home surrounded by her family, her dog, and three cats.

Betty was born March 26, 1949 on Marrowbone Creek, in Mingo County, WV, the daughter of “Blue Sam” Spaulding and Shirlie Mae (Brewer). At age 14, Betty met Clifton “Bug” Allen, the man she would love and be married to for nearly 52 years. After marrying, she became a homemaker. Then, two years later when their son came, she added the roles of “teacher” and “protector”- roles she would never give up.

Betty was an undisputed subject matter expert on cats, owning hundreds over her life. She was an avid reader, a gifted genealogy researcher, equestrian, and a farmer who raised cattle, chickens, goats, and rabbits. She loved the Jacksonville Jaguars, and fiercely defended their quarterback. She loved flea markets, auctions, yard sales, and never missed an opportunity to buy a piece of Tupperware (even if she already had it). She had wonderfully eclectic taste in music- she simultaneously loved Loretta, Seger, Waylon, Eagles, The Everly’s, and The Singing Cookes. And her opinion that George Jones was the greatest singer who ever lived, was something she’d fight over.

Betty is preceded in death by her husband Bug, her father, mother, and baby brother, Samuel Michael. She is survived by one sister, Joyce Moore of Ormond Beach, FL, one son, Gary, and his wife Danyel (who Betty lovingly called “daughter”), of Middleburg, FL. She is also survived by three grandchildren she adored: Sidnie, Sara, and Samuel.

Viewing will be at Mullins Funeral Home in Warfield, KY on Friday, January 30 from 6pm to 8pm. The funeral will follow the next day, Saturday, January 31, at 11am. She will then be placed near her parents, reunited next to Bug in the Fitzpatrick-Brewer Cemetery on Marrowbone Creek near Kermit, WV.

Fern loved her Family and friends and always wanted to enjoy life and make the best of it. She put everything she had into life; she loved with passion; she was fiercely competitive and wanted to win. When she was mad, she was mad as fire, luckily she would quench that fire as quickly as it came. Fern never met a stranger in life. She always wanted to make sure everyone had eaten something and let me tell you, this place has lost one of the best cooks to ever step in front of a stove.
Fern was a member of our Lord’s church. It is our hope that she will be remembered for the kindness and compassion she showed others, her beautiful smile and loving eyes. We look forward to being reunited with her one day.
Visitation will be on Wednesday Jan. 21st, 2026, from 5pm until 8pm. Per her request cremation to follow. Mullins Family Funeral Home is honored and privileged to be serving the family of Fern Muncy.

Mullins Family Funeral Home, Story

I, Joseph Mullins along side my wife; Melissa Dempsey Mullins, and our son, Marvin Lee Mullins are the humbled owners of the Mullins Family Funeral Home. I have dreamed of one day owning my own funeral home and now with the help of God and the public we can now say we are here. I started working in a funeral home while still in high school during my junior and senior years. I worked in a student work program for Phelps & Son Funeral in Inez, KY; in which I am grateful to Bill, Billy, and Jenny Phelps for allowing me to serve there from 1998 til 2003. I went to Mid-America College of Funeral Service in Indiana where I obtained my degree in Mortuary Science. Coming back home in 2003 when I became licensed and in 2004 started working as a licensed embalmer and funeral director for Richmond-Callaham Funeral Home. I worked there until June of 2017 when I was blessed with an opportunity to serve the people of Martin County and the surrounding areas at my fullest capacity. I thank Sara, Kelly, and Keli Callaham-Ayers for the experience I acquired while working for them. As a minister I find it easy to sympathize with the families in there deepest times of sorrow. Here at Mullins Family Funeral Home we pride ourselves in being a family oriented funeral home and invite you to come by and experience our family atmosphere. May God Bless you and Your families.
