NEW DEADLY OPIOID: A synthetic drug called cychlorphine has already been linked to multiple overdose deaths in Tennessee.
Most people have never heard of it.
Early reports suggest it may be even stronger than fentanyl.
Let that sink in.
Fentanyl is already responsible for tens of thousands of overdose deaths every year in the United States.
Now the drug supply is evolving again.
People struggling with addiction often have no idea what they are actually taking.
They think it’s a pill.
They think it’s he**in.
They think it’s fentanyl.
But increasingly it’s unknown synthetic compounds that appear overnight and spread through the street supply.
In the years I’ve worked in addiction treatment, I’ve watched the drug landscape change dramatically:
He**in
Then fentanyl
Then fentanyl analogs
Then nitazenes
And now drugs like cychlorphine.
This is why treatment access matters.
This is why education matters.
And this is why we cannot stop talking about addiction.
Every overdose death is someone’s child, parent, or friend.
