Jones Head Start had incredible participation for Read Across America Week! 📚🎉

We’re grateful for our special guest readers—Captain Douglas, Jones County Mayor Barbee, Mrs. Williams (Head Start Director), and Mrs. Jones (Assistant Head Start Director)—for taking time to share stories and celebrate the power of reading with our children. And an extra special visitor - Cat in the Hat!

Their visits helped make books exciting and showed our students that reading is important at school and in the community. Thank you for helping us build strong readers and lifelong learners!

📚✨ Special Story Time with Local Author Ms. Kathryn Dennis! ✨📚

We had an unforgettable story time event with Ms. Kathryn Dennis, author of the MiMi Tales books! Ms. Kathryn visited to read with our children and share how stories become books—explaining the steps of publishing and encouraging our students to draw, write, and create stories of their own.

Ms. Kathryn read “Giggleville’s Leprechaun Hunt,” one of the books she wrote, and our children loved every minute of it! 🍀📖

We also enjoyed a very special feature from her grandchildren, who have published books too:

What an inspiring example of creativity, confidence, and big dreams—at any age! 🌟

Crawford Head Start is getting Seuss-tastic! 🎩🐟

Ms. Zy and Mrs. Willis introduced a fun Dr. Seuss math activity where children practiced counting and sorting fish by color and number. This hands-on lesson helped build early math skills like one-to-one counting, comparing, sorting, and patterning—all through playful learning.

✊🏾📚 Black History Month Programs – Byron Head Start & Fort Valley Head Start

In February, our children celebrated Black History Month through meaningful, age-appropriate activities that highlighted history, culture, and contributions. Students learned about influential leaders, explored stories and art, and practiced kindness and respect as we honored the impact Black Americans have made—and continue to make—every day.

Thank you to our staff, families, and community partners for helping make these programs special and for supporting learning that builds pride, understanding, and community.

Wilkinson Head Start brought storytime to LIFE with an interactive read-aloud! 📖✨

Our teachers acted out “Little Red Riding Hood” while reading to the class—using voices, movement, and dramatic play to keep everyone engaged. This hands-on approach helps children build listening skills, expand vocabulary, and grow a love of reading in a fun, memorable way!
