Celebrating Black History Month- Resident Spotlight

Today we celebrate the beautiful life of Mrs. Mary H. 💛 Born and raised in South Carolina, she carried her Southern warmth and strength everywhere she went. One of twelve siblings, she learned early the value of family, resilience, and sharing love in big ways. Though her roots were in South Carolina, her journey took her to many places, including North Carolina, Long Island, NY, and Yuma, AZ — leaving a little bit of her light everywhere she landed.

Her heart for service has defined her life. She devoted 27 years as a hospital nurse, compassionately caring for patients and families during their most vulnerable moments. She then spent 5 years as a school nurse, nurturing and protecting the next generation. Even in retirement, her calling didn’t fade — she continued as a private duty nurse, finally retiring at the remarkable age of 77. Caring for others wasn’t just her profession; it is who she is.

As a proud military spouse, her patriotism runs deep — and that legacy of service was passed on to her son, daughter, and son-in-law, all of whom serve in the United States Marine Corps. Her strength and dedication continues to shine through them. Beyond her service, she is pure JOY. She loves listening to music, playing bingo, and watching Family Feud — always ready with a smile, a laugh, and a competitive spirit. (maybe even a silly face to top it off!)

She is such a fun, bright, and cherished part of our community, and her presence continues to uplift everyone who knows her. We honor her life, her service, her family, and the countless lives she’s touched. What a blessing she is-- we are so grateful that we get to be a part of her story. 💜

Celebrating Black History Month- Resident Spotlight

Today we celebrate Mrs. Mary B. Born and raised in Courtland, Virginia, she learned early what it meant to be grounded in faith, family, and resilience. The only girl with two protective brothers by her side, she grew up surrounded by love—and just enough toughness to hold her own. That balance of strength and tenderness has shaped her entire life. Though her roots run deep in Virginia soil, her heart found a special rhythm in New York City—the place she loved most of all the chapters she’s lived. There was something about the energy, the movement, the possibility that matched her spirit and passion. NYC was also where she worked as a lab tech for our 45 years!! To balance out the fast paced lifestyle of NYC and bring her back to her center, Ms. Mary always enjoyed the peace her hobbies-- cooking and reading.

Family has always been her cornerstone. You can see it in the way she poured herself into motherhood, and now in the beautiful legacy she carries as a grandmother and a great-grandmother. You can see it in the way her family shows up for her—fully, proudly, and with so much love. That kind of presence doesn’t happen by accident; it’s built over a lifetime of showing up for others first. And let’s not forget—she is one tough cookie. A cancer survivor. A living testimony that nothing can keep her down.

Her strength is quiet but undeniable, woven into every chapter of her story. These days, she may sit back as the reserved observer, taking it all in. But when that smile breaks across her face? She shines. It’s the kind of smile that reminds you of all she’s seen, all she’s overcome, and all the love she’s given. We are so blessed to have her as a resident here in our Pearl community. She represents history, resilience, grace, and unwavering love. We love you to pieces—today and always. 💕

💜💛💚 Laissez les bons temps rouler! 💚💛💜

Our community was bursting with the true spirit of Mardi Gras today, and what a celebration it was! From our Director Team leading a festive parade through the halls to an afternoon social sponsored by Enhabit Home Health, the energy was contagious. There were beads, music, laughter, and plenty of dance moves that would make New Orleans proud! Our dining team completed the experience with a delicious bowl of traditional Louisiana style Gumbo for dinner!

A huge congratulations to Jeff for being crowned our Mardi Gras King after discovering the baby in the King Cake! 👑🎉 Jeff, may your year be filled with luck, prosperity, and maybe even a few extra slices of cake!

Thank you to everyone who joined in the fun and made the day so memorable. Until next year… keep the beads handy and the good times rolling! 🎷✨

February is Heart Health Month❤️

Last Friday, Feb 6, we wore RED to raise awareness and show our support for heart health. Our team was proud to come together for such an important cause—because protecting our hearts starts with awareness.

Heart Health Fact: Heart disease is the leading cause of death in the U.S., but up to 80% of heart disease and stroke cases are preventable with healthy lifestyle changes. Small steps really do make a big difference! 👟🥗❤️

Celebrating Black History Month- Resident Spotlight

We proudly celebrate Susie—a lifelong educator who dedicated her career to shaping young minds as a beloved kindergarten teacher, impacting generations of students. A proud graduate of Fort Valley State University, Georgia Southwestern, and South Carolina State University, where she earned her doctorate in education, Susie’s passion for learning inspires us all and she continues to "teach" us all today. Beyond the classroom, she shares her beautiful voice through her church choir and the Lake Joy Lyrics Choir, with a special love for gospel and jazz. And as a true fashionista, Susie shines with style, grace, and confidence every day. We honor her legacy, talent, and the joy she brings to our community. 💛✨

🎸 National Guitar Day 🎶

This evening, our residents struck a chord with live music during Wine Down Wednesday—and it was the perfect way to celebrate! Smiles, toe-tapping, and great tunes filled the room as we enjoyed the magic of the guitar together.

Fun fact: The modern acoustic guitar traces back to Robert F. Flemming Jr., an American inventor who patented his innovative guitar design—the Euphonica—in 1886. Born in Baltimore, his work helped shape the guitars we know and love today.

Music, history, and community—now that’s a great combo ❤️🎵
