📍This Saturday‼️

👄 Pleasure: Everything You Need to Know.

Presented by: Catasha Gordon CHSE

Class Description: This course will explore pleasure as a physical, emotional, s*xual, socio-cultural, spiritual, and political framework. It will delve into pleasure skills that our culture has denied us access to or that we may not have had the opportunity to explore for ourselves.

We will deconstruct various mythos and false binaries surrounding s*xual pleasure (ie, pleasure/pain and giving/receiving), explore factors both that create barriers to pleasure and that enhance pleasure, and discover various ways in which pleasure can be a catalyst to individual, interpersonal, and collective healing.

Continuing education credits available. See website for details.

Endometriosis is a chronic, inflammatory condition where tissue similar to the lining of the uterus (endometrium) grows outside the uterus. This tissue responds to hormonal cycles, leading to inflammation, scarring, and pain.

Endometriosis Facts 🎗️

⏰ The average time from endometriosis symptom onset to diagnosis is 7-10 years. This delay causes significant physical and mental suffering.

😩 Endometriosis affects roughly 1 in 10 women and people assigned female at birth (around 190 million globally). That means it's as common as diabetes or asthma.

❓Leading theories on how endometrial tissue can leave the uterus include retrograde menstruation, genetic factors, immune system dysfunction, and environmental influences. It is NOT caused by something the person did or didn't do.

💉There is no cure for endometriosis currently, but there are treatments to help manage symptoms and improve quality of life.

🗓️ March features global advocacy events like the Million Woman March for Endometriosis (Million Woman March) and "Walk for Endo" events to fund research.

Endometriosis is an invisible illness that can be isolating. Emotional and community support are vital to overall mental health. We need better, less invasive diagnostics and more effective, curative treatments. Hopefully, we can put an end to endometriosis in the near future.

Tarana Burke

Tarana Burke is a community organizer, activist, and the founder of the “Me Too” movement, which she started in 2006, more than a decade before it went viral in 2017.
She is a dedicated advocate for Black girls, Black women, and marginalized survivors of s*xual violence.

Originally the phrase was focused specifically on Black and Brown girls and women whose voices where silenced and stories weren't believed in the wake of s*xual violence.

In October 2017, actress Alyssa Milano encouraged people to post “ ” after allegations against Harvey Weinstein, and the hashtag went viral globally. The movement then became an international reckoning around s*xual harassment and assault. Burke was publicly recognized as the original founder shortly after.

Burke has often clarified that Me Too was never just about “taking down powerful men”, it has always been about addressing the structures that feed the systems of s*xual violence. We must take on dismantling r**e culture, build support for survivors, and create evidence-based structures for the prevention of r**e and s*xual assault.

There is still much work to be done, but the movement gave a voice to millions of people worldwide. You can thank Tarana Burke for creating that space. ✊🏿🖤

Recy Taylor ✊🏿🖤

On the night of September 3, 1944, 24-year-old Recy Taylor, a wife and mother, was walking home from a church service in Abbeville, Alabama, with a friend and her son when a car carrying seven young white men pulled up. One of them, armed with a gun, forced Taylor into the car at gunpoint.

They drove Taylor to a remote wooded area where six of the men brutally forced themselves on her, threatening to cut her throat if she didn't comply with their s*xual demands.Despite the men's later confessions to authorities, an all-white, all-male grand jury refused to indict them, and no charges were ever filed.

Taylor refused to remain silent and reported her case to the NAACP, which sent its young chief investigator, Rosa Parks, to Abbeville. This was a full decade before Parks' famous act of defiance on that Montgomery bus. Parks helped organize the Alabama Committee for Equal Justice for Mrs. Recy Taylor, which launched a powerful nationwide campaign for justice.

This increased pressure forced a second grand jury hearing, but despite one attacker's confession detailing the coercion, the all-white, all male jury again refused to indict the men. For decades, her story faded from public view. However, historian Danielle L. McGuire's 2010 book, At the Dark End of the Street, brought renewed attention to the case. This led to a formal apology from the Alabama Legislature in 2011, which called the failure to prosecute her attackers "morally abhorrent and repugnant".

Taylors fight for justice became an early spark for the Civil Rights Movement. Like most movements, Black womens bodies were on the line disproportionately suffering for change. Thank You Recy Taylor and the countless other brave voices out there. You matter. ✊🏿🖤
