Do you struggle with those automated phone systems that say things like “Please say your request” or “I didn’t understand that”? Those are called IVR systems — Interactive Voice Response menus — and they’re supposed to make things easier. But for people with speech impairments, hearing loss, cognitive disabilities, or anyone who doesn’t speak “clearly enough” for a machine, they can turn a simple phone call into a nightmare.
This article from Goodwill Easterseals Miami Valley really hits home. It talks about how voice‑only IVR systems can shut people out of basic tasks like paying bills, and why we need better, more accessible options — like bringing back keypad input for everyone.
Take a look and tell us: Do YOU have trouble with IVR systems? What would make them easier to use? https://gesmv.org/post/Can-You-Hear-Me-Now-The-Challenges-of-Interactive-Voice-Response-IVR-Systems?fbclid=IwY2xjawQER3RleHRuA2FlbQIxMABicmlkETJoUmVHb1ZLamFWZ2JLc1dYc3J0YwZhcHBfaWQQMjIyMDM5MTc4ODIwMDg5MgABHswI7qr8tb05JsRrsXwdZSYvwlQWBlwEaJYRbTdU0jxf77APL7DbPp4hQHE2_aem_cr24TWWbCguZtWaJyjrJRg

“I’m sorry, I didn’t understand your request. Can you please repeat that?” I hear these phrases…

Looking for something to do and want to explore somewhere new?
Did you know that Cleveland was one of the first cities in the country to adopt a full ADA Transition Plan? Cleveland offers sensory‑friendly attractions, barrier‑free outdoor spaces, and inclusive services for all types of visitors. Whether you use a wheelchair, a white cane, or an interpreter, Cleveland is ready to welcome you.
Check out these helpful accessibility resources from This Is Cleveland and Destination Cleveland:
➡️ Visitors Who Are Blind & Low Vision
➡️ Visitors Who Are Deaf & Hard of Hearing
➡️ Visitors Requiring Mobility or Health Equipment
➡️ Accessible Transportation

We wish every city offered not just strong accessibility, but also a guide like this—something that actually helps you understand how accessible your community is. Cleveland sets the bar high with this feature, and it’s a game‑changer for anyone planning a visit.
Imagine if every city made it this easy.
Does your city offer anything like this?
If not, maybe it’s time to start asking for it.

🌟 Random Acts of Kindness Day 🌟

At WRILC, we’re reminded every day that kindness isn’t just a gesture — it’s access, inclusion, and community in action.

A small act can change someone’s whole day:
• checking in on a neighbor
• offering a ride or a helping hand
• holding the door
• sharing a smile or a kind word
• supporting someone’s independence in whatever way they choose

Kindness strengthens our communities and makes them more welcoming for people of all abilities. Today is a great day to spread a little extra care — and to remember that kindness is powerful every single day.

💙 Let’s lift each other up.

Not all disabilities are visible. 💡

Many people live with conditions that affect mobility, energy, hearing, vision, mental health, or cognitive processing—even when those needs aren’t immediately apparent.

A little kindness, patience, and respect can make a big difference. We all bring unique strengths to the table, and every piece matters. Avoid assumptions, stay open, and remember: accessibility and understanding benefit everyone.

Not all disabilities are visible. 💡

Some people may have conditions that affect mobility, energy levels, hearing, vision, mental health, or cognitive processing—even if you can't see it.

Kindness, patience, and respect go a long way. We all bring different pieces to the puzzle, and all are needed. Avoid assumptions and remember: accessibility and understanding benefit everyone!
