Sunrise Collaborative, LLC., welcomes Michelle Crowther, MSW, LSW to the team! Here is what Michelle has to say:

I have spent more than 30 years working as a social worker and supporting people through some of life's most challenging moments. I earned my Bachelor's Degree in Social Work, with a minor in Sociology, from Edinboro University in 1995. Soon after graduating, I began my career in child welfare, where I discovered a passion for working with adolescents who were transitioning into adulthood.

While working with the youth, I continued my education and earned my Master's Degree in Social Work from the University of Pittsburgh. I obtained my licensure in 2004 and later took on a new professional challenge with the Pennsylvania Department of Corrections in 2005. There, I worked first as a Corrections Counselor and then was promoted to a Corrections Unit Manager.

All of these collective experiences have led me to join the Sunrise Collaborative Team. I believe healing and growth are possible when there is a strong trusting therapeutic relationship. Together, we will focus on individual strengths, needs and develop goals in an effort to encourage meaningful changes.

In my free time I enjoy spending time with my family, gardening, traveling and being outside.

In Pennsylvania, protecting children is not only the responsibility of mandated reporters. Under the Pennsylvania Child Protective Services Law (CPSL), any person who has reasonable cause to suspect child abuse may make a report — even if they are not a mandated reporter.

This is known as permissive reporting.

• You do not need proof — only reasonable suspicion.
• Reports made in good faith are protected under the law.
• Anyone can report suspected abuse 24/7 through the state’s ChildLine system by calling 1-800-932-0313.

Mandated reporters have a legal duty to report, but permissive reporting ensures that every community member has the ability to help protect children.

When in doubt, speak up. Child safety is a shared responsibility.
