Hope is the foundation for healing for children impacted by the disease of addiction. Hope can motivate someone to embrace gratitude who might otherwise give up. Hope can summon courage to reach out for help when struggling with fear and isolation. Hope can release shame and blame, helping children accept that a parent's addiction is not their fault. In the spirit of the season, NACoA extends hope to children of all ages and wishes everyone a safe and healthy holiday.

Because at times during the holidays families impacted by the disease of addiction can experience anxiety, depression, fear, and isolation, please remember these important resources are always available:
• 988 National Su***de and Crisis Lifeline (can call or text)
• SAMHSA's National Helpline: 1.800.662.HELP (4357) - for individuals/families facing mental &/or substance use disorders
• Al-Anon/Alateen - Al-anon.org: available to individuals impacted by someone else's drinking, with information and meeting schedules (electronic & phone meetings accessible during inclement weather).
•NACoA’s Family Support resources. https://nacoa.org/family-resources/

A gentle reminder this holiday season: If you grew up in a home impacted by a parent’s alcohol use, you may have learned to put others’ needs before your own — becoming the peacemaker, the fixer, the one who ā€œholds it all together.ā€

But you don’t have to do it all. Not this year. Not anymore. Setting boundaries, saying no, and protecting your time and energy isn’t selfish — it’s healing. Boundaries are a sign of growth, not distance. A reflection of how far you’ve come.

Use this Circle of Control as a gentle guide. Focus on what’s within your control. Let go of what isn’t. You deserve peace, too.

The circle of control is one of my absolute favorite tools to use when helping kids manage worry & anxiety!

For this activity, kids look at different situations and decide whether or not it's something they can control. Learning to identify (and focus on!) what's in your control is such a powerful strategy.

This activity is part of my worry & anxiety interactive notebook pages. The resources includes 8 interactive notebook pages that will help kids better understand cope with their worry and anxiety.

To see the resource, comment "circle" and I'll send you the link!
