April has been delightful at North Star Manor as we gathered to celebrate our monthly birthdays, a true highlight that allows both staff and residents to make everyone feel extra special. We were particularly honored to host a milestone 101st birthday celebration for Bernice, complete with a wonderful visit from her family that made the day truly unforgettable. These celebrations are the heart of our community, offering us a beautiful opportunity to honor the incredible legacies of our residents while filling the halls with laughter, connection, and plenty of cake!

Happy Occupational Therapy Month! We are so proud to celebrate our incredible team—Kaylee, Danie, and Nadine—and we invite you to wish them a happy OT month if you see them around!

What makes Occupational Therapy so special is the unique puzzle each individual presents; because everyone is different, we embrace the challenge of adapting daily tasks to fit each patient or resident’s specific needs. Maintaining independence is vital to our well-being, as losing the ability to perform simple tasks can make anyone feel vulnerable. Our mission is to bridge that gap, focusing on increasing safety and independence so that every individual can return to living their life to the fullest.

Also a special thank you to our Therapy Manager, Emily (OTA), for all the work she does!

March's Athlete of the Month was Sharon Nicholls.

April's Athlete of the Month is Ray Huglen. Ray consistently walks to the restorative room to ride the bike, and walks around the facility to stay strong and maintain his independence.

Residents tried a fun twist on bingo this past week and gave SINGO a try. What a fun twist on bingo using songs instead of numbers! Residents loved reminiscing and sharing memories while enjoying familiar tunes.

Our Restorative Department introduced vibration plate therapy primarily to assist with pain management. Since its implementation, we have observed significant improvements in our residents, including reduced lymphedema and increased circulation. Furthermore, consistent use has proven effective in alleviating neuropathy, leg pain, and Restless Leg Syndrome (RLS), leading to a measurable increase in sleep quality.

What a beautiful season of faith and fellowship we’ve shared at North Star Manor! From reflective services to joyful celebrations, our hearts are full as we look back on our Easter and Lent events.

We kicked off the season with Palm Sunday, hosting two beautiful services and a special "Sunday Dinner" set with our lovely china; it was a joy to see so many smiles as residents shared heartfelt stories of their own family traditions. The fun continued with Easter Bonnet Bingo, where a large group gathered for some friendly competition, festive laughs, and wonderful Easter decor prizes!

Our residents also tapped into their creative sides with Resurrection Tomb crafts, providing a meaningful space for conversation and reflection on the Easter story.

Finally, we held a powerful Good Friday service with a wonderful crowd in attendance. We want to extend a special thank you to Hank Bergman, Carol Monroe, Evelyn Skjerven, and Pastor Dann for reading the Passion of Jesus Christ, and to Neil Krueger for the beautiful music. Having Pastor Dann's wife, Jennifer, parents, and three of his daughters join us made the service feel truly complete.

Our residents are proving that age is just a number and boxing is no match for this crew! We’ve been working on our coordination and strength, and let’s just say the bag didn't stand a chance. There is nothing like a little friendly competition and movement to keep us feeling our best!
