Experimenting with different bio’s about my experiences as a meditation leader…
Athan Phynix is a meditation facilitator and sound healing practitioner whose work bridges mindfulness, multifaith spirituality, and community-based wellness. He was introduced to guided meditation and sound healing at the age of 12 as therapeutic tools for managing anxiety and depression, an early experience that shaped a lifelong commitment to accessible contemplative practice.
Over more than a decade, Athan has studied and practiced meditation across multiple traditions, with a sustained focus on mindfulness. He currently assists with sound bowls within a mindfulness community, contributing to group practice through supportive, trauma-aware sound facilitation.
In 2010, Athan founded and led a student-run meditation club at the Community College of Rhode Island (CCRI), Warwick Campus. Meeting twice weekly, the group provided a consistent, peer-led space for stress reduction, emotional regulation, and contemplative practice. This initiative marked the beginning of Athan’s ongoing work in designing and facilitating inclusive meditation environments outside of institutional or religious frameworks.
From 2021 to 2023, Athan led a weekly multifaith Sunday service at the Mediator Fellowship in Providence, offering opening and closing meditations that welcomed participants from diverse spiritual, cultural, and philosophical backgrounds. After two years of service, he took a planned hiatus to focus on further personal and spiritual development.
In 2024, Athan returned to public facilitation through sound healing and guided meditation events at a local yoga studio. He is currently expanding this work to venues such as Saltitude and other locations throughout New England, with the goal of increasing access to contemplative practices that support mental health, community connection, and creative expression.
Athan’s facilitation emphasizes inclusivity, experiential learning, and adaptability to diverse audiences. His work reflects a long-term commitment to community wellness through non-dogmatic, accessible meditation and sound-based practices.
