As our dedicated patient service specialist for Veterans, Doreen can help expedite your orthopedic care. If you have a referral from the VA for an orthopedic specialist, call Doreen first at 540-347-9220. She’ll work with the VA on your behalf and can usually get authorization within 48 hours and an appointment scheduled within a week. Here at Blue Ridge Ortho, we’re proud of our radiologic technologists, who are truly remarkable at putting patients at ease and will go to great lengths to accommodate our patients’ physical limitations and pain levels and still get quality images quickly and accurately. Also, they all have a great sense of humor.

For a group that specializes in imaging, our Rad Tech team is, ironically, not an easy group to photograph. So, while we continue to try to get a photo of all of them in one place at one time, here's a photo of Wilhelm Conrad Röntgen instead. He discovered the x-ray on Nov. 8, 1895.

Meet Elaine Casey, a patient of Blue Ridge who also happens to be our radiology supervisor and a die-hard Pittsburgh Steelers fan. Stabbing shoulder pain was making life harder for Elaine, including her job and cheering for her favorite team.

Fortunately, Dr. Robert Smith has been able to successfully treat Elaine’s shoulder pain, despite the fact he’s a huge Baltimore Ravens fan. Anyone who follows the NFL knows the Steelers and Ravens have one of the most intense rivalries in the league.

So, is this proof that great healthcare transcends rivalries? We think so.

Last week, orthopedic surgeons Dr. Scott Koenig and Dr. Anna Green had the opportunity to engage with residents of our community at two local events.

Dr. Koenig, who specializes in hip and knee replacements, gave a presentation titled “From Aching to Active: Surgical and Non-Surgical Paths for Hip and Knee Arthritis” to residents of Heritage Hunt on Oct. 21. His talk helped dispel some misconceptions about joint replacements.

Dr. Green, who specializes in hand and upper extremity surgery, attended Fauquier Health’s “In the Pink” event on Oct. 23 as part of a physician panel. She was able to speak one-on-one with many of the women who attended the event.
