Please don’t burn unless absolutely necessary.

Nearly half of all wildfires in North Carolina are the result of careless debris burning. Burning leaves, sticks, limbs and brush in the wrong weather conditions, not having the appropriate fire control tools while burning and turning your back on a fire can turn any yard cleanup project into a neighborhood’s worst nightmare. Don’t be that neighbor.

👉Check and monitor the weather. If the forecast indicates dry or windy conditions and elevated fire danger, let burning wait.
👉If you do burn, take the appropriate precautions. Get a valid burn permit. Have the right tools. Stay with and attentive to your fire until it is out cold.

Red flag warning for our area.
Please do not burn today!!

The National Weather Service has issued a **🚩RED FLAG WARNING🚩** for North Carolina counties.
👉Review weather alerts for North Carolina: https://bit.ly/40DsGTW

A red flag warning means that critical fire weather conditions are either occurring now or will shortly. A combination of strong winds, low relative humidity and warm temperatures will create dangerous fire behavior.

Fire danger is elevated across the state. While open burning is permitted during a red flag, it is NOT advised. Please postpone all outdoor burning.

Careless debris burning is the leading cause of wildfires in North Carolina, and you are our best defense against wildfire.

Wildfire activity is kicking up across the Southern region. In North Carolina, conditions this time of year can be favorable for wildfire. Conditions can also fluctuate quickly. Burning debris or dumping hot stoves ashes on the wrong day in the wrong place can be disastrous.

There are steps you can take to prepare for wildfire and to prevent wildfire.

🎯Monitor weather forecasts, conditions and outlooks available for your area.
👉The Southern Area Daily Outlook is a good one: https://gacc.nifc.gov/sacc/resources/predictive/sacc-daily-outlook.pdf.

🎯Learn more about the home ignition zone and how you can create defensible space around your home. Follow recommended best practices when using outdoor fire so you’re spreading prevention and not wildfire.

If the warming and drying trend continues through late November and deeper dryness remains, there will be significant concern for wildfire potential and risk heading into 2026 spring wildfire season.
