The Health Doctors, Ltd. The Health Doctors offer a holistic approach to healthcare that promotes true health and wellness.

Dr. Jim’s sees symptoms as a way for the body, mind and spirit to communicate what it needs. By decoding these messages, he is able to provide patients with treatment plans that accommodate the whole-person not just a single aspect of them. He adjusts more than your spine, he adjusts your mind and spirit to create space, time and opportunity for your body to take good care of itself and regrow stronger, healthier and more vital. Nowhere is this more apparent than in his work with children where he has personally witnessed drastic results. From soothing inconsolable babies with colic to stopping chronic ear infections to seeing neural regeneration, Dr. Jim’s special blend of chiropractic care has provided hope to families where hope has been lost. Through the use of chiropractic techniques, muscle response testing and hands-on, non-forceful energy balancing procedures, Dr. Claussen brings a deeper level of healing and consciousness by re-establishing the full healing potential of the body. Understanding that the body makes no mistakes regarding health and longevity, B.E.S.T. principles acknowledge the concept of interference we create with our conscious mind. This interference causes imbalances in the autonomic nervous system, leading to exhaustion of our organ systems over time.

If your child melts down in loud stores, avoids certain clothes, covers their ears, or seems overwhelmed by busy environments, it may not be defiance or “bad behavior.” It can be sensory overload.

Sensory overload happens when the nervous system is taking in more input than it can organize. Lights feel brighter. Sounds feel louder. Touch feels more intense. When the brain cannot filter and process all of that information smoothly, kids can shift into stress mode quickly. That might look like tantrums, shutdowns, anxiety, or needing to escape the situation altogether.

Most parents try to manage the environment. Quieter spaces. Fewer transitions. More preparation. Those things help. But the deeper question is why your child’s nervous system is having a hard time processing and adapting in the first place.

A regulated nervous system can take in sensory input and respond appropriately. A stressed nervous system reacts as if everything is a threat. When we support regulation and balance, many families notice their child can tolerate more input, recover faster from overwhelm, and move through their day with more ease.

If your child seems easily overstimulated, picky with textures, reactive to sound, or exhausted after busy days, their nervous system may be working overtime. You are not imagining it, and you are not alone.

There are ways to support their system so the world can feel less overwhelming and more manageable. To learn more about our nervous system-based chiropractic care, visit https://thehealthdocs.com/

When a child is dealing with sensory overload, everyday environments can feel like too much, too fast, too loud.

Bright lights, busy stores, certain fabrics, crowded classrooms or even routine transitions can overwhelm their system and lead to meltdowns, shutdowns, anxiety, or difficulty focusing.

What many parents don’t realize is that these reactions aren’t simply behavioral.

They’re neurological.

When a child’s nervous system is stuck in stress mode, it has a harder time filtering and processing sensory input. Instead of calmly taking in information from the world around them, their brain and body go into protection mode. That’s when you see big emotions, resistance, or complete overwhelm.

Sensory challenges often show up alongside labels like ADHD, anxiety, or autism, but regardless of the diagnosis, the underlying pattern we see most often is a nervous system that’s working overtime and struggling to regulate. Coping strategies can help in the moment, but long term change happens when we support the nervous system itself.

At our office, we focus on how well your child’s nervous system is adapting to stress and sensory input. Using gentle, neurologically focused chiropractic care and advanced scans, we can see where their system may be stuck and help restore balance and communication between the brain and body.

As regulation improves, many families notice their child can handle sounds, touch, transitions, and busy environments with more ease.

If your child seems constantly overwhelmed by their environment, it’s not a parenting failure and it’s not a character flaw. Their nervous system may simply need support.

There is a reason for what you’re seeing, and there is a path forward.

Tantrums and meltdowns can feel sudden, confusing, and exhausting for the whole family.

One moment your child is fine, the next moment everything feels like too much.

Many parents are told this is just behavior to manage or something their child will grow out of. But for a lot of kids, those big emotional reactions are not a choice. They are a nervous system response.

When a child’s nervous system is stuck in stress mode, even small challenges can feel overwhelming. This is the fight or flight response. It is designed to protect us in danger, but when it stays switched on too often, the brain reacts before it can think.

That can look like yelling, hitting, crying, shutting down, or going from calm to explosive in seconds. From the outside it looks like misbehavior. From the inside it feels like their body is on overload.

Regulation happens when the nervous system can shift into a calmer state.

That is where kids can process emotions, recover from hard moments, listen, learn, and connect. If the body is constantly bracing for stress, those skills are much harder to access. This is why some kids cannot simply “calm down” when asked. Their nervous system has to feel safe and supported first.

In our office we look at how the nervous system is functioning and how much stress it is carrying. When we support regulation through gentle, neurologically focused care, many families notice their child begins to recover from big emotions faster, handle frustration better, sleep more soundly, and engage more positively at home and school. Not because we forced behavior change, but because the body is no longer stuck in survival mode.

If you feel like you are walking on eggshells or bracing for the next meltdown, you are not alone. Big emotions are often a sign that a child’s nervous system needs support, not more pressure. When the nervous system becomes more balanced, everything else becomes easier for the whole family.

Some kids are not trying to be difficult. Their nervous systems are just overwhelmed.

Gael’s family came in because emotions felt big and hard to manage. Transitions were tough. Communication broke down quickly. And like so many parents, his mom had already tried everything she could think of to help him regulate.

When they came to our office, we started with neurological scans. Instead of guessing, we were able to see how hard Gael’s nervous system was working and where his body was stuck in stress mode. For many families, this is the moment things finally start to make sense.

Once Gael began his personalized care plan, his mom started noticing shifts. Not overnight perfection. But real, meaningful progress.

“He’s happier and more engaged. He’s even more verbal about his emotions.”

That is what nervous system support can do. When a child’s body feels safer and more regulated, it becomes easier to communicate, connect, and handle big feelings.

Behavior is communication. And often, it is the nervous system asking for support.

We are so proud of you, Gael 💙

When a child can’t sleep, it’s rarely just a bedtime problem. Sleep is a nervous system function.

Rory’s family came to us in that exact season. Her family shared,
“I cannot express enough gratitude for the positive impact the Health Docs has had on Rory’s life. She was battling intense anxiety and panic that affected her ability to eat, sleep, attend school, and function. It was an incredibly difficult season for all of us.”

When the nervous system is stuck in stress mode, sleep is one of the first things to suffer. Kids may take hours to fall asleep, wake frequently, or feel on edge even when they’re exhausted.

Through consistent, neurologically focused care, Rory’s nervous system began to find balance. As her body learned to regulate, sleep improved and everything else changed. Her mom shared,
“Now she’s not only functioning but thriving. She’s attending school, sleeping through the night, and most importantly, smiling again.”

Better sleep supports emotional regulation, focus, immune health, growth, and the whole family’s quality of life.

If your child struggles to settle at night, wakes often, or seems stuck in a cycle of restless sleep, it may be time to look deeper at the nervous system. The missing piece isn’t another bedtime routine. It’s helping the body feel safe enough to truly rest.

There is hope for calmer nights and brighter days. 🌙✨

Dr. Colleen has always know that she wanted to work with children and moms. She learned the Webster technique and how to care for pregnant mothers in her pediatric training, but it wasn’t until she went through her own pregnancy that she really developed an appreciation for everything that a pregnant woman goes through physically and emotionally. Mothers are strong! She believes our bodies were intelligently designed for the beautiful process of birth; something our ancestors have been doing for thousands of years. All we need to do is listen to our hearts and we will know exactly what to do for ourselves and our children. She is determined to make it the standard that every mother, child, and family get adjusted. Her WHY is that big! She enjoys being part of the fantastic team of providers at The Health Doctors, Ltd. She is beyond excited to continue her passion for providing families and children with specific chiropractic care.
