Anxiety is directly related to stress, which affects hormone production and regulation. 🤒

In regard to evolution, the nervous energy that comes with anxiety is meant to protect you from potential predators—but in this day and age, anxiety tends to feel less than protective, sometimes even debilitating. 😩 To address any hormonal imbalances that may be wreaking havoc and causing symptoms, you must look toward stress management. Here are some tips to managing anxiety and the stress that comes with it:

❤️ Focus on your breathing to activate the parasympathetic nervous system and vagus nerve.
❤️ Moderate physical activity provides more oxygen to the brain and releases essential anxiety-managing neurotransmitters like dopamine, serotonin, and adrenaline.
❤️ See if the food you're eating has enough vitamins and nutrients to balance hormones and support brain health; look for plenty of magnesium, zinc, and omega 3s.
❤️ Seek professional help if necessary. You know yourself best! If you're experiencing chronic anxiety or signs of mental illness, more than just diet and lifestyle changes may be necessary.

Baked oatmeal is a great breakfast for a crowd. 😋 This recipe is dairy, gluten, and refined sugar free!

You'll need:
- 2 large eggs
- 1 1/4 c milk of choice (we like almond milk)
- 1/2 c maple syrup, honey, or monk fruit sweetener
- 3/4 c pumpkin puree, homemade or canned
- 1 tbsp avocado oil or coconut oil, melted
- 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
- 1 tsp pumpkin pie spice
- 3 c gluten-free rolled oats
- 1 tbsp chia seeds
- 1 tsp baking powder
- 1/2 tsp fine sea salt

Pre-heat oven to 350 degrees and grease a square, oven-safe dish. In a large bowl add eggs, milk, sweetener, pumpkin puree, oil and vanilla extract and whisk to fully combine. To the wet ingredients add oats, chia seeds, baking powder, and salt and mix until fully combined. 🔥 Pour into prepared dish and bake for 30-35 minutes, until the center is just barely firm. Scoop and serve warm or cool and slice into 9 square portions.

Caffeine offers a quick energy boost, but that's not all it does. ☕

👉 Small amounts of caffeine in the diet can have a beneficial effect by increasing:

- athletic performance
- focus
- alertness
- metabolism

On the other hand, too much caffeine may increase feelings of anxiety, disrupt sleep, and irritate the stomach. Additionally, not all caffeine sources are created equal. 🙊 Energy drinks and ""designer"" coffee drinks are high in sugar and additives, often in unreasonable portion sizes.

If you don’t currently include caffeine sources in your diet, there isn’t enough evidence to suggest that you should start. If you do, keep an eye on when you're consuming it, how often, what is in it, and how it makes you feel.
