I got over 20 reactions on one of my posts last week! Thanks everyone for your support! đ
đŚđđđŚđŚ. THANK YOU to ALL of you! I caught a simple cold at the end of January. Mike wanted to fly to Tampa to look at a rescue dog (sadly he was sooooo anxious he would not come near us). We drove a rental car home in less than 3 days. Mike had a horrible head and chest cold which he passed to me.
It wasnât until this week that I finally rebounded. đ
*****If you get sick, unless medically bad for you, I advised my patients to:
1. immediately drink sips of Gatorade/electrolyte beverages constantly to avoid the aches and pains of dehydration & broken cells from the invading virus.
2. Take Tylenol or Advil as directed on the bottle to create a steady state to tamp down aches AND fevers. If you take the over the counter (OTC) meds intermittently you will feel so so much worse!!! I used to say, âPick one, Tylenol or Advil, whichever you can take or like better, and take as directed like itâs your new religion for 7-10 days until you feel the worst of the cold is over. THEN, you can take it PRN, or as needed.â
3. Get a box of super soft nose-friendly tissues. If you cheap out and get sandpaper tissues, make sure you buy Neosporin with Pain Relief.
4. I use Theraflu day/night and Alka Seltzer day/night. No, I donât use NyQuill because it has diphenhydramine which is Benadryl. The older a person gets (or if slow kidney function), the longer Benadryl hangs out in your system. Please avoid products with this in it if you intend to go to work: you could get a DUI and I cannot help you. Of course I have had patients ask me to âtake care of their arrestâ. I canât. Sorry
5. Be smart. Please: I donât care if you sneeze and infect a school full of little germy kids. BUT, if they have grandparents at home, or the school secretary has been working there 7 decades âŚmaybe your stance is responsible for the hospitalization/death of multiple older Americans. Itâs okay to stay home a few days to heal faster. đ¤§đ¤đ¤˘đˇ
