Not only is Cara an amazing co-responder, she is also an amazing friend, co-teacher of our new Buried in Treasures Workshop, and NAMI supporter. We 💚 you, Cara Gadzinski!

In honor of March being Social Workers Month, we wanted to acknowledge the work of our human services co-responder, Cara Gadzinski. She's a specially trained social worker who's been paired with our police for the last several years.

Cara assists with a variety of calls, including de-escalating adolescent issues or runaway scenarios, domestic violence calls, assisting those dealing with mental strife, and intervening in instances where su***de or self-harm are a concern.

Thank you, Cara, for all of your work! Falls Township Police Department appreciates you!

Justice Remembered: Holding Tech Giants Accountable

In March 2023, Bucks County took a landmark step to address the youth mental health crisis by filing a civil lawsuit against the parent companies of TikTok, Instagram, Snapchat, and YouTube, with the DA’s Office utilizing its unique civil enforcement authority under Pennsylvania’s Consumer Protection Law.

The lawsuit asks a critical question: Should tech companies be held responsible for the impact their platform designs have on children? The county alleged that features engineered to be addictive contributed to a significant increase in anxiety and depression among local students, straining our schools and mental health resources.

The initiative was a collaborative effort between the County Commissioners; the District Attorney’s Office, then led by District Attorney Matt Weintraub; and the County Law Department, then led by County Solicitor Joe Khan.

By joining forces, Bucks County became one of the first in the nation to argue that the safety of children must be a priority in the digital age.

Since that filing, Bucks County’s effort has become part of a massive national movement, and there have already been historic milestones this year.

Earlier this month, a trial began in Los Angeles, marking the first time a jury will decide if design choices like infinite scrolling and notification algorithms are responsible for harming children.

Courts recently ruled that while platforms aren't responsible for what users post, they can be held liable for designs found to be inherently dangerous to minors.

Just days before the trial in Los Angeles, both Snapchat and TikTok reached undisclosed settlements, and several platforms are now implementing stricter privacy and time-limit features.

Bucks County was at the forefront of this fight, which continues as Joe Khan takes on his new role as District Attorney. As the proceedings in Los Angeles continue, our goal remains clear: ensuring the safety and well-being of our children always comes before corporate profit.
