Meet one of our shining lights in navigation — Laurie!

Laurie’s dedication has changed lives across the globe. In partnership with Komen, she helped launch the very first patient navigation program in Nigeria — opening doors to hope, education, and lifesaving support for women facing breast cancer.

In Nigeria, breast cancer is the most common cancer among women, with nearly 100,000 new cases each year. Many are diagnosed at late stages due to limited diagnostic centers, delayed care, and fear surrounding the diagnosis. For too many women, hearing “breast cancer” brings thoughts of death, loss, and hopelessness.

Before 2016, patient navigation was unfamiliar to most patients and even many healthcare professionals. Women often faced their cancer journey alone.

But organizations like Project Pink Blue are changing that. Through awareness programs, patient navigation, advocacy, and free breast and cervical screenings for women living in poverty, they’re bringing comfort, clarity, and early detection to communities in need.

Laurie’s work continues to shine brightly by proving that compassion, leadership, and navigation can change the world, one life at a time.

Meet one of our shining lights in navigation — Rebecca!

As the Breast Surgery Nurse Coordinator and Breast Cancer Nurse Navigator at Geisinger Wyoming Valley, Rebecca has been a driving force for patient-centered care since 2018.

She helped launch the High Risk and Inherited Risk Clinic, guided her team through two NAPBC re-certifications, and chairs the Survivorship Committee for CoC accreditation, all while keeping patients at the heart of every decision.

Certified through both NCBC and ONCC, Rebecca is dedicated to expanding access, education, and survivorship support. She even launched a patient buddy program and proudly represents her region through the PA Department of Health Cancer Coalition and the PA Oncology Navigation Network.

Her leadership, compassion, and unwavering commitment truly light the way for patients and colleagues alike.

Meet One of Our Shining Lights in Navigation — Christine!

As we celebrate National Oncology Navigator Day on Dec. 9th, we’re proud to highlight Christine, whose warmth, empathy, and unwavering dedication brighten every corner of the breast center.

Scott shared, “Christine is a well-rounded, empathetic, and truly caring navigator. I’ve seen countless times when a patient arrives nervous for their biopsy and leaves relieved, smiling, and even laughing with Christine by their side. She has a gift for helping people open up, bringing them out of their shell, and making those around her feel genuinely supported.”

Christine, thank you for the compassion, joy, and comfort you bring to your patients and your community every single day.

Our goal at NCBC is to improve breast‑care delivery, support innovation, and ensure patients receive the most effective treatments. Studies like this push the boundary of what’s possible in precision care.

For breast‑centers, care providers, and advocates this means: exploring new tools, understanding how AI and multimodal data might integrate into clinical workflows, and ultimately enhancing patient safety and outcomes.

We encourage all clinicians, breast center leaders, researchers, and advocates in the breast‑care realm to take a look at this article. It’s a vivid example of how cutting‑edge technology and data science are making a difference.
