Is it a "tantrum" or a "meltdown"? Understanding the difference changes everything. A tantrum is usually a strategy to get something. A meltdown is a biological reaction to overload. We don't punish meltdowns. We co-regulate. We offer safety. We validate. ❤️

🚩 Myth: "Look at me when I'm talking to you."
✅ Fact: Forced eye contact can be physically painful and distracting for autistic individuals. At Bloom and Thrive, we never write goals for eye contact. We care that your child is listening and communicating, not where their eyeballs are pointing. We respect neurodivergent social styles here.

"When does the therapy start?" We hear this a lot from parents while we are on the floor playing cars. The answer? It already started. Children learn best through play (NET - Natural Environment Teaching). We target communication, social skills, and motor skills all while zooming cars. No flashcards required. 🚗💨

"If a child can't say 'No', their 'Yes' doesn't matter." In traditional therapy, a child saying "no" was often seen as a "behavior to reduce." At Bloom and Thrive, we see it as advocacy. We teach our learners that their voice matters. When they know they can opt-out, they are more willing to opt-in. This is the heart of Assent-Based care.
