❤️St. Anthony Community Hospital is proud to donate a 12-Lead EKG to the incredible Greenwood Lake Volunteer Ambulance Corps!

An EKG, (electrocardiogram), is a medical device that records the electrical activity of the heart and can help diagnose and monitor a variety of heart conditions.

This vital piece of equipment is a game-changer. It will allow Greenwood Lake EMS to establish a higher level of care for patients right in the field, providing a real-time connection to our Emergency Department team before the ambulance even arrives at St. Anthony Community Hospital. This means faster, more informed treatment when every second counts!

Thank you to the Greenwood Lake EMS Corps for their dedication to our community! We are honored to work with you to strengthen the connection of care for all our neighbors. Read more: bit.ly/44lwJa7

💙 St. Anthony Community Hospital Makes a Difference! 💙

St. Anthony Community Hospital, a member of WMCHealth, recently completed an employee-driven Fall Food Drive, and we’re excited to share the impact it made right here in our community.

Thanks to the generosity of our St. Anthony Community Hospital team, we helped contribute to the 1,500+ food items collected across the WMCHealth network to support individuals and families facing food insecurity.

This November, employees at St. Anthony Community Hospital donated non-perishable foods and essential supplies. All contributions from our hospital were delivered to the Warwick Ecumenical Food Pantry at the Warwick United Methodist Church, supporting their vital work in providing resources, dignity, and hope to local families.

This effort reflects our ongoing commitment to caring for our Hudson Valley neighbors, both inside our hospital and throughout the community.

A heartfelt thank-you to every team member who helped make a difference! 💙🙏

🏃‍♂️💙 Running for a Cause: Marathon Team Raises Funds for WMCHealth

🏅 Congratulations to all who conquered the TCS New York City Marathon!

This year, a dedicated group of Westchester Medical Center Health Network (WMCHealth) employees, patients, and family members went the distance — 26.2 miles — to support WMCHealth.

👏 Please join us in celebrating our incredible runners: Adam Cox, Juan Trias, Otto Palao, Justin Williams, Kelly Peach, Rachel Cross, Marc Stepper, Victor Stevens, and Nabeel Ahmed.

Among them was Adam Cox, father of six-year-old Christopher, who ran his third marathon in support of Maria Fareri Children’s Hospital’s pediatric neurology department. Christopher has been cared for at Maria Fareri since age two, following his epilepsy diagnosis — and Adam runs each year to honor the exceptional care his son has received. 💛

Thank you to every runner, supporter, and donor who made this year’s marathon so meaningful. Your dedication helps WMCHealth continue to provide life-changing care for families across our region. 🙏💙

☀November is Epilepsy Awareness Month☀

☀️Congratulations to Westchester Medical Center's Section Chief of Epilepsy, Manisha Holmes, MD published in JAMA ☀️New Study Offers Hope for People with Newly Diagnosed Focal Epilepsy ☀️

The results of a large-scale study of people with epilepsy were just published in a paper in JAMA Neurology, offering new hope and clearer expectations for people newly diagnosed with focal epilepsy. The study was authored by Sarah N. Barnard, MD, MIPH; Zhibin Chen, PhD; and Manisha Holmes, MD, Epilepsy Section Chief at Westchester Medical Center, et al, on behalf of Human Epilepsy Project (HEP) study investigators.

Key findings include:
🔵 Most patients (60%) became seizure-free, but only 27% achieved this with their first anti-seizure medication (ASM).
🔵 Seizure control usually takes more than one year—the median time to seizure freedom was 12 months.
🔵 One in four patients developed treatment-resistant epilepsy, continuing to have seizures despite multiple adequate medications.
🔵 The first year after diagnosis is the most challenging—63% still had seizures during that time, including subtle episodes that may be overlooked.

Early detection of lung cancer saves lives!

The WMCHealth Lung Cancer Screening Program offers high-quality imaging and a dedicated team to guide you through the process. Lung cancer screening with low-dose computed tomography (LDCT) can detect early stages of the disease, leading to better outcomes. The program is offered at St. Anthony Community Hospital in Warwick, as well as several other locations.

The U.S. Preventive Services Task Force (USPSTF) recommends yearly lung cancer screening with LDCT for high-risk patients who meet the following criteria:
✅ Age between 50 and 80 years
✅Current cigarette smoker or quit smoking in the last 15 years
✅Cigarette smoking history of 20 pack-years or more (pack-years is calculated by multiplying the number of cigarette-packs smoked per day by the number of years smoked)
✅No symptoms of lung cancer

📞 If you think you might qualify for lung cancer screening or would like more information, schedule an appointment with the WMCHealth Lung Cancer Screening Program by calling 833.WMC.LUNG.
