D***y Challenge Training Update
Big milestone unlocked. Dr. McAteer just wrapped up a tough simulation week with two back to back 15 mile runs and one additional five mile day. The goal was simple. Feel the fatigue. Learn how the body responds. Build confidence for what the D***y Challenge will demand over four straight race days.
With that box checked, it’s officially taper time! A taper is when training volume comes down so the body can recover, recharge, and show up strong on race days. Fitness stays. Fatigue fades. Legs get their bounce back. It is where all the hard work finally starts to pay off.
Strength training has remained a key part of this journey as well. Dr. McAteer has been lifting four days a week with two upper body days and two lower body days. This work matters. Strength supports good running form when the miles add up, protects joints, and helps prevent injury when fatigue sets in.
Now the focus shifts to recovery, rest, and enjoying time with family over the holidays. The D***y Challenge begins January 8th, and the excitement is building.
The training is done. The foundation is solid. Let the magic happen.
