โ„๏ธ Snow Day Reminder: Shovel Smart

Winter storms mean more shoveling, but heavy snow and cold temperatures can put serious strain on the heart, especially for older adults or people with heart conditions.

Quick safety tips:
โ€ข Take breaks and go slow
โ€ข Push snow when possible
โ€ข Lift smaller loads
โ€ข Dress warm and stay hydrated
โ€ข Do not hesitate to ask for help

If you feel chest pain, dizziness, shortness of breath, or nausea, stop and get medical help right away.

Check in on older neighbors and family members too. Offering to shovel could make a big difference this winter. ๐Ÿ’™

Winter is peak season for flu, RSV, and other respiratory illnesses, but small steps can make a big difference.

โœ… Stay up to date on recommended vaccines
โœ… Wash hands often (and after coughing/sneezing)
โœ… Keep gatherings safer with fresh air + staying home when sick
โœ… Clean high-touch surfaces
โœ… Check in on older adults and anyone with chronic conditions

Prevention protects our communities โ€” especially those most at risk. ๐Ÿ’™

Research suggests that up to 80 percent of infectious diseases are spread by hands that are not cleaned well or often enough. A simple 20-second wash with soap and water helps break the chain of infection in homes, schools, workplaces, and care settings.

During National Handwashing Awareness Week, we encourage everyone to:

โ–ช๏ธWash before eating or preparing food
โ–ช๏ธWash after using the bathroom or changing a diaper
โ–ช๏ธWash after coughing, sneezing, or blowing your nose
โ–ช๏ธWash when you return home from public places
โ–ช๏ธScrub all parts of your hands with soap and water for at least 20 seconds, then rinse and dry with a clean towel or air dry.

Clean hands support healthier patients, families, and communities.
