🎙 Rhode Island Missed Its Moment — Let’s Talk Health Equity

On this week’s episode of The Rotunda on 990 WBOB, our Executive Director, Nicholas Oliver joined host Scott Rotondo to discuss how Rhode Island missed a major opportunity to advance real health equity through the new Rural Health Transformation Program — a federal initiative and grant program under H.R. 1, the “One Big Beautiful Bill Act.”

🎧 Start listening at 29:00 to hear how this decision impacts home care, rural health and access to care across our state.

Tomorrow night at 8:30 PM, our Executive Director, Nicholas Oliver be on 990 WBOB's The Rotunda talking how Rhode Island missed the moment through a once-in-a-generation federal funding opportunity for the Rural Health Transformation Program within the "One Big Beautiful Bill Act" to bring real access to healthcare in Rhode Island's rural areas.

"From Tiverton to Burrillville and from Westerly to Foster, there are Rhode Islanders who live miles from the nearest clinic, hospital or bus stop. For these residents, many of them elderly, disabled or chronically ill, simply getting to a physician’s office can be a day-long ordeal or an impossible task. Our state’s health disparities are not just about income or insurance; they are geographic and structural. The only reliable bridge to those who are otherwise unreachable is the network of home care providers already serving on the front lines of our dilapidated health system."

If you believe that "health equity" should be more than just a political buzz phrase, tune in, share the post and feel free to submit questions.

🌿 November is National Care at Home Month 🌿

This week, we recognize Hospice and Palliative Care Week — a time to honor the compassionate professionals who bring comfort, dignity, and peace to patients and families across Rhode Island.

At the Rhode Island Partnership for Home Care, we celebrate the dedicated hospice and palliative care providers who help individuals live their best possible life — wherever they call home. Their work embodies compassion, empathy, and excellence in care.

💜 Thank you to every nurse, aide, therapist, social worker, chaplain, and volunteer who provides comfort through some of life’s most meaningful moments.

Together, we reaffirm our commitment to advancing quality home-based care and supporting those who make it possible every day.

On this day sixty years ago, July 30, 1965, President Lyndon Baines Johnson traveled to the Harry S. Truman Presidential Library in Independence, Missouri, to sign Medicare and Medicaid into law. His gesture drew attention to the 20 years it had taken Congress to enact government health insurance for senior citizens and low income Americans after President Truman had proposed the two vital programs.
