A new year brings new opportunities to take better care of your body—including your feet. If you're looking to start 2026 off on the right foot, these four resolutions can make all the difference:

• Choose supportive footwear: Opt for shoes that provide proper cushioning and arch support to reduce strain and keep your feet comfortable throughout the day.

• Stretch your feet and ankles daily: A few minutes of stretching can improve mobility, prevent stiffness, and lower your risk of injury.

• Maintain good foot hygiene: Keeping your feet clean and dry helps prevent odor, irritation, and fungal infections.

• Check your feet daily: Regular checks help you spot cuts, swelling, or changes early. This is especially important if you have diabetes or circulation issues, as nerve damage or reduced blood flow can make it harder to notice problems before they worsen.

Foot or ankle issue slowing you down? Our experts can get to the bottom of the problem and work with you to create a personalized treatment plan to get you moving comfortably again.

If you checked any of the boxes, you likely have athlete’s foot, which warrants proper medical treatment. Although often considered just a nuisance, athlete’s foot doesn’t typically go away on its own. It’s contagious: it can spread to other people and other areas of your body. Worse, it can lead to bacterial infection.

Foot or ankle injury “not serious enough for surgery” but “not healing with standard care?" Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) treatment is your middle ground, bridging the gap between surgical intervention and conservative approaches.

It involves taking a small sample of your own blood, concentrating the platelets, and injecting them directly into the injured area. Those platelets release growth factors that stimulate tissue repair, reduce inflammation, and speed up the healing process.

It essentially aids your body to do what it was designed to do—only faster, stronger, and more efficiently.

Time for our Ask-the-Doc series—your go-to for answers about foot and ankle treatments!

Today’s topic: Bunion surgery

Q: When is bunion surgery considered, and how does it work?
A: Bunion surgery is typically considered when conservative measures, such as wearing shoes with a wider toe box, padding, splints, and custom orthotics, no longer provide adequate relief, or when pain interferes with walking or daily activities.

There isn’t just one type of bunion surgery. The approach depends on how far the joint has shifted. For some patients, the surgeon smooths and realigns the joint; for others, the bone is cut and repositioned to place the toe back where it belongs. No matter the technique, the goal is the same: straighten the toe, reduce pressure, and get you moving comfortably again.

Think you could benefit from bunion surgery? Schedule a consultation with one of our foot and ankle specialists to find out.

Heel pain causing your tween to limp after their drills or sit out sprints? One of the most common causes of heel pain in children between the ages 8 and 14 is calcaneal apophysitis (Sever’s disease), a condition in which the growth plate in the back of the heel becomes inflamed.

Sever’s disease can be a challenging condition, in that it doesn’t show up in X-rays, and it doesn’t have symptoms other than pain.

That’s why a comprehensive evaluation by a foot and ankle expert is imperative. Here at FAINE, our specialists thoroughly assess the following:

• Gait and movement mechanics
• Flexibility
• Foot structure
• Shoe wear patterns
• Activity level

You’ll leave with clear answers — and a treatment plan that helps your child move comfortably and confidently again.
