Dee Sapp, the Executive Director for The SonRise Project, is also a devoted mother, fierce disability advocate, and living proof that you can champion someone else's greatness without losing your own. For decades, Dee has been on the front lines of raising her son, a Paralympic athlete who recently competed and won in Barcelona, Spain, representing Team USA.

Her son, who is autistic and has an intellectual disability, did not get there by accident. He got there because of a mother who refused to accept limitations, fought for inclusion at every turn, and built a support system rooted in love, advocacy, and an unshakeable belief in her son's potential.

But Dee's story is not only her son's story. It is also the story of a woman who learned — sometimes the hard way — that caregivers need care too. In this conversation, Dee brings her whole self: the pride, the exhaustion, the growth, and the hard-won wisdom that comes from raising a remarkable human being while still becoming one herself.

This conversation is for:

✅Parents and caregivers of children with disabilities

✅Anyone who has ever put themselves last

✅People who love someone on the spectrum and don't know how to cope

✅Anyone who needs to hear that YOU matter too

Radical freedom is about the profound, often uncomfortable, and entirely transformative act of choosing yourself, over and over again. Join us as we welcome back Candace Washington, LCSW-C who will once again pull back the curtain on her own powerful journey.

Her story is a testament to the fact that healing is possible, even from the darkest places. She emerged from the depths of despair not just sober, but free. Her unique perspective gives us a closer look at how to design your own freedom as well as how to live with radical self-honesty.

Join us on April 19th, at 9 AM EST, on The SonRise Project.

This Sunday, April 12th, at 9:00 AM EST, Kelli welcomes Nicole Brown.

A mother's love is often described as unconditional, but when faced with the relentless tide of a child's challenges, that unconditionality is tested in ways few can comprehend.

It is a journey through a landscape of shadows, marked by the highest peaks and the deepest valleys of despair.

Join Nikki, as she opens her heart to The SonRise Project Sunday Support Call Community, sharing a raw and transformative personal journey of loving her child through the ups and downs of hyper vigilance, guilt, always on high alert and moving past the "fixer" mentality.

On Sunday, April 5th, at 9:00 AM EST, Kelli welcomes back our resident therapist, Dr. Linda McGhee, for a timely and grounding conversation: A SPRING EXHALE: The Architecture of Ease

When the world is loud, your soul needs a sanctuary. The weight of parenting along with the global instability can be heavy. Many parents fight personal battles for the wellness of their children.

Spring is a great time to shift, pause and deconstruct the urgency culture. We need a moment to transition from a state of high cortisol into a space of internal safety.

Dr. Linda McGhee understands the systemic pressures that make "rest" feel like a luxury many parents can't afford. She will help us stop "managing" the chaos and start building an architecture of ease. Join us for this collective ease.

Our audience couldn't get enough, so we asked Alycia to come back to continue our conversation about how our children are often OUR biggest casualties.

Not because of them, but because of our actions. Our fears, our worries, our controlling behaviors, our generational trauma; all of it.

Alycia has mastered her own transformation, and will share real-life, practical tools of how we can transform our relationships with our children -- and ourselves.

Alycia Johnson, Founder of "The 1212 Community" and "Always Journal" is a force that always provides us with thoughtful and powerful conversation on intentional living.

Have you ever walked into a room carrying the weight of the world, yet managed to smile like everything’s fine? Sometimes, the mask we wear becomes so comfortable, we forget who we really are underneath.

The truth is: hiding our pain doesn’t make it disappear—it just sinks deeper, quietly affecting everything from our relationships to our decisions. Those silent tears and aches we carry don’t go away on their own. Unprocessed pain waits patiently, showing up in ways we may not realize.

This week, we’re getting real about why we reach for the mask, what it’s costing us, and how to begin the brave journey of taking it off—one honest, authentic moment at a time. Healing starts when we choose to let ourselves be truly seen.
Special guest: Beverly “Coach Bev” Kearney—one of the most inspiring coaches in NCAA history, a visionary leader who believes greatness lives in all of us. Her legendary record and passion for mentoring have helped countless people unlock their highest potential.

Ready to let go of the mask and start your journey toward authentic healing? Tune in and join the conversation!

Radical acceptance is a powerful parenting tool. Sometimes, the best thing we can do is sit with our children in their “darkness” instead of rushing to fix things. Self-compassion means letting go of guilt and recognizing how important our own mental health is as parents.

Meet Lexi Cunningham, MPH (she/her)—a Yale grad, suicidologist, and wellness expert. Lexi’s research focuses on su***de in Black communities, and she’s a leader in health equity. In 2020, she founded LRH Wellness, a virtual center dedicated to helping Black communities thrive through wellness programs and social media.

Join The SonRise Project Community and special guest Lexi Cunningham this Sunday, March 8th at 9 AM EST for a powerful conversation! We’ll talk about pushing past fear and equipping ourselves as parents with radical empathy, new tools, and supportive language.

This Sunday, March 1 at 9:00 AM EST, Kelli welcomes back our resident therapist, Dr. Linda McGhee, for a timely and grounding conversation: March Madness & Managing Overwhelm.

It is not easy to step back as your child enters adulthood.
It is not easy to allow space for their journey toward stability.
It is not easy to watch and wait instead of fix and control.

And yet, this season asks parents to redefine their role — without losing themselves in the process.

Dr. Linda, a clinical psychologist, attorney, nationally recognized speaker, and long-standing SonRise contributor, will help us explore:

How overwhelm shows up in the body
Why secrets and silence intensify stress
How to support your adult child without abandoning your own peace
What it means to regulate before you react

If you’ve been feeling stretched…
If you’re holding more than you admit…
If stepping back feels harder than stepping in…

This space is for you.

Parenting is not about control. It's about learning to lead with acceptance, appreciation, and allowing our children to walk their OWN paths, not the ones that we prescribe for them.

As we celebrate the past 6 years of The SonRise Project, our Founder and CEO Kelli Richardson is grateful for the countless lessons, the healing, and the clarity that has come with over 300 Sunday morning calls. She's been intentional about becoming a better version of herself and about building NEW relationships with her children that are rooted in acceptance, grace, presence, and respect.

While we (as parents) can't get the time back, we CAN learn to rebuild and transform our relationships with our children. Kelli is proud of how she and her 23 year old son Kyle are working on rebuilding their relationship. Kyle will join The SonRise Project Community on Sunday, February 22nd, at 9 AM EST to courageously share his personal transformation and how and Kelli are working together toward a better future.
