This is what coordinated advocacy looks like.

When community blood centers come together, lawmakers listen. This year we saw 11 resolutions introduced across the country recognizing National Blood Donor Month — with seven already passed.

That momentum didn’t happen by accident. It happened because ABC members worked together with a shared purpose.

Many people stop themselves from donating blood because of myths:
❌ “I’m on medication.”
❌ “I’m diabetic.”
❌ “I have tattoos.”

✅ The facts: Most medications don’t disqualify you. Diabetics on well-managed insulin can donate. Tattoos aren’t a barrier.

This , we honor Dr. Charles Drew, an African American surgeon who revolutionized blood banking.

In 1933, Dr. Drew became the first African American to earn a Doctor of Medical Science degree, paving the way for future generations. As a physician, surgeon, and researcher, his work on plasma transportation during World War II was crucial for the U.S. war effort and led to the development of the nation's first blood banks and bloodmobiles.

Dr. Drew's innovations continue to save lives today through advanced blood storage and transportation systems. His legacy reminds us of the importance of diversity in science and medicine.
