A street medicine organization providing equitable health care to unsheltered individuals in DC

Street Health DC is a street medicine program that brings medical care and support directly to people who are experiencing unsheltered homelessness. We provide accessible medical care with the ultimate aim of improving the health and well-being of these individuals and the community as a whole. Through a harm-reduction approach and collaboration with other community organizations, we provide medical treatment and resources, referrals to other healthcare services, and support for social and environmental needs. Street Health DC provides care in a respectful, compassionate, and non-judgmental manner, and works to advocate for policy and systemic changes that will improve access to healthcare and affordable housing in our community.

The US Capitol claims to stand for a free and just society- yet tonight, as we finished our Street Medicine rounds, it stood over an uninvited military presence at Union Station.
These are our patients and neighbors.
Our disgust is beyond words. Forcibly clearing encampments and threatening jail is not safety – it’s state-sanctioned cruelty.

Summer heat isn’t just uncomfortable — it can be deadly, especially for people experiencing homelessness who have limited access to shade, water, or indoor cooling. During this week’s clinical rounds at Union Station, our team focused on distributing water and other essential supplies to help people stay hydrated and safe.

Extreme heat poses serious health risks like heat exhaustion, dehydration, and heat stroke, and those without stable shelter are at the highest risk. That’s why access to cooling resources — like water, shaded areas, cooling centers, and ongoing medical care — is critical.

We’re grateful to be out in the community each week, meeting people where they are and working to make sure no one is left behind in the heat.
