As I was preparing our February Newsletter, I couldn't help but feel the intense dissonance of doing a normal “work task” in the midst of a devastating and scary time in our country's history.
It’s so hard to do the normal tasks of life of life right now. As a practice, we’ve had many conversations amongst our team about this very challenge, and about how to best support our clients who we know are struggling with the same. While I wish we had a perfect answer as to how to best navigate the grief and fear of this moment, there is no road map for this. It is normal, expected, and deeply human to feel overwhelmed about how to hold all of this. What I can say with certainty is that we are here for you.
As therapists, we are grateful for a job that lets us connect human to human in an authentic way. Whether that means helping you navigate the fear and anger you may be experiencing as you watch the news, or the personal challenges you are facing at home. They both matter, and we are here to meet you wherever your needs are in this moment.
As a practice, we remain committed to ethical care, which for us means, amongst other things, staying outspoken about our political beliefs so our patients know they are safe in our care. We don’t know where this moment will lead, but we will be here to walk alongside you as we figure it out together.
