We’ve learned over the last 13 years that one of the most powerful weapons we have in the fight against fibroids is our own voice.

Earlier this month, our founder & CEO, Sateria Venable, had the pleasure of speaking on a dynamic panel at the ’s Menopause & Women of Color Summit. When asked about the patient voice, she was able to pull from her own experiences to explain just how powerful it is for both ourselves and entire communities.

YOUR voice is powerful, and you are the expert. Don’t let anyone silence you, because you never know who will be impacted because you spoke up.

Several days every month, millions of women wake up and brace themselves. They check their sheets before they get out of bed, pack their bags like they’re prepping for an emergency, cancel plans, sit through pain and smile through meetings while managing something those around them rarely know about.

Your period shouldn’t cost you your peace of mind, your confidence, or your sense of self. And still, for millions of women, it does.

Heavy Menstrual Bleeding is a medical condition, not something to navigate alone and in silence.

Welcome to another Fibroid Friday! Fibroid Fridays are a result of a collaboration between the Fibroid Foundation and Mayo Clinic to bring new and emerging fibroid research and news to those who should know about it first - women with fibroids and their doctors.

This week’s stories highlight the growing momentum in fibroid research, including insights shared at Fibroid Summit 2026, equity-focused research led by our Medical Advisory Board member Dr. Ebbie Stewart, and innovative lab-grown fibroid models developed by Dr. Erika Moore, who presented her work at Summit. This work reflects the Fibroid Foundation’s commitment to elevating research, connecting scientists with the communities they serve, and pushing the field closer to better treatments and, ultimately, a cure.

Uterine fibroids and heavy menstrual bleeding often go hand in hand…but why?

Fibroids are often not just sitting there doing nothing. Many times, they’re changing the structure of your uterus and disrupting the way your body functions. Yet, many women believe that heavy periods are normal. They’re not.

May is National Menstrual Health Awareness Month, a time to elevate conversations about menstrual health and the policies that shape care, research, and outcomes for millions of women.

As part of this effort, we’re gathering advocates, clinicians, researchers, and organizations on Capitol Hill for our annual 2026 National Menstrual Health Awareness Month Congressional Briefing. We are bringing the conversation to Congress and creating a space to highlight the importance of advancing menstrual health policy, including federal action on uterine fibroids.

If menstrual health awareness is important to you, we hope you’ll join us! RSVP using the link in our bio.

It’s not secret that fibroid research doesn’t get enough attention.

But this past Saturday, the Patuxent Room at the College Park Marriott told a different story. For Fibroid Summit 2026, clinicians, researchers, patients, advocates, and supporters came together to push the conversation, and the science, forward. The more we amplify this work, the closer we get to better treatments and a cure.

Didn’t get a chance to join us? Stay tuned for details on where & how you can watch Fibroid Summit 2026 virtually.

Today, on International Women’s Day, we’re celebrating the power of women’s voices, and the importance of making women’s health impossible to ignore.

We’re proud to partner with to raise awareness about heavy menstrual bleeding and the realities faced by millions of women living with uterine fibroids. For too long, conversations about heavy periods and menstrual health have been minimized or kept quiet. That has to change.

At the Fibroid Foundation, we believe that when women have knowledge, community, and support, they are empowered to advocate for their health and their futures.

Today, and every day, we stand with women everywhere who deserve to be heard, believed, and supported.

Four and a half years. That’s how long women wait, on average, before getting proper treatment for iron deficiency anemia caused by heavy menstrual bleeding.

Four and a half years of exhaustion, brain fog, and heart health risks.

If you have heavy periods and you’re feeling constantly drained, it’s time to talk to your doctor. And if they won’t hear you, it’s time to seek out a new one. You’re not imagining this, and it’s NOT normal.
