Change begins the moment you find the courage to look your monster in the eyes.
Do not run.
Do not pretend it isn’t there.
Do not paint it over with pink glitter.
Do not say, “I’ve already worked through all of this.”
But simply stay.
And see.

Because every suppressed fear, every fragment of shadow — is not an enemy.
It’s a part of you that once protected, rescued, kept you alive.

And behind each of these “monsters,” there is always a resource: strength, clarity, boundaries, a living feeling, the ability to choose.

Transformation doesn’t happen when we decorate our shadows. It happens when we integrate them.

Growing up we all move through certain stages.�At each stage we have to learn something psychologically —�our rights, our boundaries, our capacity to love and be loved.

If something interrupted one of those stages,�a part of us can stay there — still trying to get what it needed.�It’s called fixation.�Or, in more serious cases — trauma.

Then we become parents.�And our kids, without meaning to, shine a light on those old places.�Their cries, their independence, their defiance —�they touch the same spots where we once felt powerless or unseen.

It’s an opportunity for awareness.�Every trigger is a small hint�to look back with gentleness and curiosity —�to meet the child we used to be,�so we can truly see the one standing in front of us.

The entire point of therapy�is to finish what once got interrupted —�to give those younger parts of us�the safety to keep growing.

As someone who was hit hard by parenthood —
not just by the sleepless nights or the mess,
but by what it brought up in me
— I had to face the parts of myself I didn’t even know were still hurting.

Over the years,
through studying and practicing somatic psychology and working with women and parents,
I’ve come to see that what we call “triggers” are not our failures — they’re the body’s invitations to look deeper.

I wrote this guide for parents
who feel trapped in old patterns.
Here’s a quote from it:

“Every parent brings to parenting a lifetime of experiences: the way we were raised, the patterns we absorbed from our families, and the strategies we developed to survive childhood. These old patterns often show up in subtle but powerful ways.

If we were shamed for our emotions, we may feel triggered by our child’s big feelings.
If we were pushed to achieve, we may react harshly to our child’s struggles or slower pace.
If we never had safe boundaries, our child’s independence may feel like abandonment.

This is why a child’s behavior so often feels disproportionately triggering: it stirs something unfinished in us, not just in them.”

Parenthood asks us to re-meet the child within ourselves. Only then we can be the parent our own kids need.
