AMCHP Our membership also includes academic, advocacy, and community-based family health professionals, as well as families themselves.

The Association of Maternal & Child Health Programs (AMCHP) leads and supports programs nationally to protect and promote the optimal health of women, children, youth, families, and communities. The Association of Maternal & Child Health Programs is a national resource, partner, and advocate for state public health leaders and others working to improve the health of women, children, youth, and families, including those with special health care needs. AMCHP's members come from the highest levels of state government and include directors of maternal and child health programs, directors of programs for children with special health care needs, and other public health leaders who work with and support state maternal and child health programs. Our members directly serve all women and children nationwide, and strive to improve the health of all women, infants, children, and adolescents, including those with special health care needs, by administering critical public health education and screening services, and coordinating preventive, primary, and specialty care. AMCHP builds successful programs by disseminating best practices; advocating on our member's behalf in Washington; providing technical assistance; convening leaders to share experiences and ideas; and advising states about involving partners to reach our common goal of healthy children, healthy families, and healthy communities.

The closing plenary of highlighted both connection and disconnection. Keynote speakers Jasmine Johnson, Sheng Lee Yang, Juliana McMillan-Whilhoit, and Kendra Blackett-Dibinga took us on a journey into the heart of self-care, inviting us to reflect on how we care for families, providers, and those who are on the frontline of community trauma and care.

Throughout this restorative session, speakers discussed the importance of seeking and identifying support and support systems, holistic wellness, and unplugging while remaining informed. As the session wrapped up, participants walked away
with tools, resources, and practices for centering self-care, checking in with one another, and balancing personal and professional priorities, especially during times of crisis and uncertainty.

And just when we thought it couldn’t get any better, the energy shifted right after the plenary! We dove into an energetic segment filled with dance and music, creating joyful connections that uplifted our spirits and ignited a sense of community. What a wonderful way to cap off the 2026 AMCHP Annual Conference!

We unpacked the real-time policy shifts shaping and the different roles many of us play in navigating them at our second plenary.

AMCHP’s Sherie Lou Santos led a fireside chat with Brittani Collins, Dr. Michael Warren, Dr. Tobi Adeyeye Amosun, and Dawn Bailey, exploring the power of relationships, bipartisan collaboration, and confidence in our expertise.

Lightning presenters, including Dana Yarbrough, Chrissy Hood, Alexandra Fields, Dr. Mona Hanna, and Marcia O’Malley, also shared real-world examples of how professionals translate policy into programs and action.

As Alexandra reminded us, “Relationships are the most stable infrastructure we have.”

Now the question remains for all of us: Are you ready to move beyond listening to truly collaborating with youth? Comment BORN READY if you enjoyed this energizing session!
