October is National . In recognition, PIW partnered with the The United States Department of Justice and Howard University Hospital to host “Breaking the Silence on Domestic Violence,” a powerful forum dedicated to education, collaboration and advocacy.

More than 100 attendees joined the event to explore the complex realities of domestic violence through conversations centered on the legal system, therapeutic approaches and personal experiences—all with the goal of strengthening prevention, intervention and healing efforts.

The forum opened with impactful remarks from Jeanine Pirro (pictured), United States Attorney for the District of Columbia, who spoke passionately about legislative efforts to enhance protections for victims. A panel of experts followed, featuring representatives from the DC DOJ, Howard University Hospital’s Trauma Program, and Imani Carter, our Director of Outpatient Services, who shared valuable insights and strategies for addressing domestic violence in our communities.

The event concluded with courageous survivors sharing their stories of strength and resilience—a moving reminder of why this work matters. Together, we remain committed to raising awareness, supporting survivors and advocating for meaningful change.
