AIA DC Committee on Accessible Design

AIA DC Committee on Accessible Design Recognize accessible design initiatives, convey innovative design solutions, and unify strategies to enhance and promote accessible design.

Many design initiatives promote equal access to the built environment for people of varying abilities. This Committee seeks to bring together practitioners, architects, designers, builders, and other industry leaders to unify strategies for enhancing accessible design. Special emphasis is placed on innovative design solutions that create an accessible environment. It is recommended, but not required, that interested committee members have experience in any of the following areas, or the like:
• The Americans with Disabilities Act
• The Fair Housing Amendments Act
• Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act
• ANSI A117.1 Standards and state and local building codes
• Universal Design/ Inclusive Design
• Design for Health and Wellness
• Visitability
• Design for Aging
