🎧 Comment 576 to listen to the full episode.

Constipation and bloating are often dismissed as minor inconveniences. In reality, they can reflect stress physiology, pelvic floor dysfunction, hormonal shifts, or even more serious conditions.

In Episode 576, I speak with Dr. Trisha Pasricha, gastroenterologist and Assistant Professor of Medicine at Harvard Medical School, about motility, the gut-brain connection, bowel frequency norms, red flags, and what women need to understand during perimenopause and menopause.

IN THIS EPISODE, YOU WILL LEARN:

âś… Why women tend to be more inhibited about their bodily functions than men
âś… The gut-brain connection and how stress can affect bowel movements
âś… What is normal when it comes to bowel frequency?
âś… The importance of treating both the central and enteric nervous systems to manage IBS symptoms
âś… Why fiber is essential, and various ways to incorporate it into meals
âś… How fiber improves bowel regularity and overall health
âś… Common issues women experience with bowel movements during perimenopause and menopause
âś… The role of pelvic floor dysfunction in constipation and how it can be treated
âś… Dr. Pasricha identifies three red flags for serious health conditions
âś… The potential link between environmental factors, increased consumption of ultra-processed foods and sugar-sweetened beverages, and early onset colorectal cancer

Gut health conversations should be practical and stigma-free.

Creatine is one of the most well-researched supplements we have, but how you take it matters.

In midlife, I often see women taking it inconsistently or without a clear strategy. The reality is that it works by building up in your system over time.

Consistency, appropriate dosing, and pairing it with strength training are what make the difference in strength, recovery, energy, and cognitive function.

That’s also why I formulated MLP Creatine+, a clean, research-backed formula with 5g of creatine plus targeted nutrients to support muscle, energy, and mental clarity in midlife.

If you’re considering adding it to your routine, comment "CREATINE" and I’ll send you the full details.

If your digestion has shifted in midlife, pay attention.

Bloating, constipation, reflux... Hormonal changes influence stomach acid, bile flow, enzymes, and motility. When those shift, symptoms follow.

Next week on Microbiome Mondays:
“Bloating, Constipation, and Reflux: What Your Digestion Is Telling You.”

The link for session 6 will be sent to your email; if you’d like to receive it and haven’t registered yet, comment GUT.

Not every “wellness trend” is appropriate for every phase of life.

In perimenopause and menopause, stress resilience changes.

If you’re already someone who is highly driven, constantly pushing, and operating in a heightened stress state, adding more intensity, even in the form of cold exposure, may not be supportive.

This isn’t about avoiding discomfort, It’s about being strategic with how much stress your body is already carrying.

In The Menopause Gut, I explain how stress, gut health, and hormones interact, and how to adjust your approach in midlife.

Preorder the hardcover before April 28, 2026 to receive exclusive bonus resources.

Comment BOOK and I’ll send you the link.

Digestion doesn’t start in your stomach; it starts in your brain.

If you’re eating in the car, standing at the counter, stressed, distracted, or in fight-or-flight, your body isn’t prioritizing digestion; it’s prioritizing survival.

The parasympathetic nervous system; the rest and repose side of the body, is what allows you to produce stomach acid, secrete digestive enzymes, and properly break down protein, fats, and carbohydrates.

When that system isn’t activated, digestion takes a hit.

These are some of the reasons creatine is getting more attention in perimenopause and menopause.

Not as a trend, but as support for muscle, energy, and cognitive function during a time when physiology is shifting.

MLP Creatine+ is formulated specifically for women in midlife to support strength, energy, and mental clarity in one daily scoop.

If you’d like to try it or learn how to incorporate it into your routine, comment CREATINE and I’ll send you the details.

A “perfect” dinner in midlife doesn’t need to be complicated, but it does need to be intentional.

The goal is balance:

• Adequate protein (30–50 grams)
• Fiber from whole food carbohydrates
• Healthy fats

This combination helps support blood sugar, improve satiety, and maintain muscle mass, all of which become increasingly important during perimenopause and menopause.

Many women are not getting enough protein or fiber, which can impact how they feel day to day.

In The Menopause Gut, I walk through how to structure meals and nutrition to better support gut health, metabolism, and hormonal changes.

This week on Microbiome Mondays we went deep on the gut–brain axis and why the anxiety, brain fog, and mood shifts so many women experience in midlife aren't just "stress."

They're biological and they're connected to what's happening in your gut.

If you missed this session, you'll find the link in your email and If you haven't registered yet, comment the word "GUT" and I'll send you the link.

Many women in midlife experience chronic inflammation, but the causes are often more complex than expected.

It’s not just about what you’re eating, inflammation can be influenced by:

• Insulin resistance and loss of muscle mass
• Declining estrogen levels
• Overtraining or excessive exercise
• Fasting patterns that don’t align with your body’s needs
• Changes in gut health, including reduced short-chain fatty acids

These factors often work together, which is why addressing inflammation requires a more comprehensive approach.

In The Menopause Gut, I explain how these systems interact and provide practical strategies to support gut health, metabolism, and hormonal balance.

Creatine is often associated with performance, but in midlife, the conversation shifts.

As estrogen declines, changes in energy production, muscle strength, and recovery become more noticeable. What many women experience as “fatigue” is often happening at a cellular level.

This is where creatine becomes relevant.

It helps support ATP production, which impacts both muscle and brain function. Not just for workouts, but for how you feel day to day.

If you want to understand how this works in your body and what to consider before adding it in, comment ENERGY and I’ll send you the full article.
