A new AJPH article written by former and current NBPHE board members, Donna Petersen, Paul Halverson and Jaime Corvin calls on academic and practice leaders to strengthen the public health profession by embracing certification as a shared standard for workforce competence and accountability. The authors highlight how the Certified in Public Health (CPH) credential can help unify the field, support lifelong learning, and strengthen connections between schools of public health and the practice workforce. ASPPH submitted formal comments to the US Department of Education (ED) opposing the proposed exclusion of Master of Public Health (MPH) and Doctor of Public Health (DrPH) degrees from the definition of a “professional degree” under the One Big Beautiful Bill Act (OBBBA). Your voice is critical, now more than ever. Here’s what you can do to speak up for public health:

❗ CALL TO ACTION ❗

STEP 1: Submit your public comment by March 2!

While ASPPH’s letter (https://aspph-webassets.s3.us-east-1.amazonaws.com/Final+ASPPH+RISE+Comment+Letter.pdf) is technical in nature to respond in detail to the specific provisions of the proposed rule, we encourage you to use the introduction as a starting point for your own letter. Personalized letters can highlight how the proposed rule would affect students, institutions, and community health.

STEP 2: After submitting your comment, notify your Senators and Members of Congress using ASPPH’s action form (https://www.votervoice.net/ASPPH/campaigns/133930/respond) to help ensure policymakers understand the importance of protecting public health education and maintaining a strong, well-trained workforce.

STEP 3: Visit ASPPH's webpage to learn more (https://aspph.org/advocacy/public-health-is-a-professional-degree/)

APTR is deeply alarmed by the recent actions of the ACIP to reverse long-standing, science-based recommendations for the hepatitis B vaccine in infants.
