The Bridging and Aging Disabilities Network (BADN) project in Illinois focuses on understanding challenges in and improving coordination in Case Management, Service/Information Referral across Aging and Developmental Disabilities (DD) Systems

Their #1 goal: Seamlessly connect individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD) who are aging, and aging caregivers, to needed services.

To date, they have
-Created goals and a work plan
- Worked with BADN Technical Assistance (TA) team to create a survey for the Aging and Disability Network to understand the needs for training, education, and resources for case managers and service providers
- Worked with BADN TA to create a survey for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD) who are aging and aging caregivers to understand their unmet needs for support
- Included I/DD engagement in the Multi-Sector Plan on Aging
- With the collaboration from the NACDD grant, expanded collaboration between I/DD and Aging to three additional grants/projects

The results so far (projects are ongoing):
- 55 responses from providers of developmental disabilities services
- 59 responses from the aging network
- 12 responses from providers of both aging and disability services, and 5 other entities
- 125 responses from caregivers

Each week, we share a real story from a person with an intellectual or developmental disability (I/DD). These stories show how people with I/DD live, lead, and speak up in their communities across the U.S.

These are real stories that remind us why disability rights and inclusion matter every day — not just during a specific day or month of the year.

Thank you to our friends at Texas Council for Developmental Disabilities for helping us collect these stories!

NACDD’s 2025 theme, We’re Here All Year, emphasizes that community, accessibility, and opportunities for people with developmental disabilities should be recognized and championed.

State Developmental Disabilities Councils — often called DD Councils — work to support those ideals every day, in many different ways.

Swipe through the images below to learn all about what DD Councils are, what they do, how they work, and (most importantly) how YOU can get involved!

Visit the We're Here All Year gallery to learn more about this year's theme and read personal stories from people with intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD) from across the nation.

Project Impact Highlight: Alabama

The Bridging and Aging Disabilities Network (BADN) project in Alabama focuses on local training initiatives with Aging and Disability Resource Centers (ADRCs) and other community organizations.

To date, they have trained fourteen (14) ADRCs on:
- disaster preparedness
- training
- volunteer coordination
- distribution of resources through Meals on Wheels

As resources allow, the State will also be expanding training opportunities through:
- senior centers (Phase 2)
- faith-based communities (Phase 3)

The training will lead to greater awareness and engagement of Older Americans Act (OAA) grantees with the target population and would likely foster future collaboration in other areas.

Joint Statement Alert:

32 leading disability organizations—including NACDD—have released a joint statement expressing their disappointment with recent changes to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) website.

The website now states: “’Vaccines do not cause autism’ is not an evidence-based claim.”

This is false.

We are calling for the CDC to:
- Revert their website to its previous version
- Commit to vaccine education initiatives around the country that emphasize the high-quality, scientific evidence that vaccines do not cause autism
- Invest in research projects and initiatives that are responsive to the needs of autistic people and their families

We stand united in our call for science-based decision-making and increased investment in the research, programs, and services the autism community needs to live fully.

This includes the belief that public health messaging must be grounded in science and protect all communities.

We urge public leaders, institutions, and media to uphold scientific integrity and work together to strengthen the infrastructure of support for the entire autism community.
