Start with your strengths!

When prepping for a stressor (could be a wedding, a new puppy, a child, a big move or career change) start with what you as an individual and you two as a couple already do well! Then explore how those natural or learned strengths can apply to your new challenge!

Happy Weekend!! You can take the girl out of New England, but well you know the rest...smiling so deeply this weekend after a pandemic week that felt longer than usual.

One of the challenges of the whole pandemic WFH life is demarcating weekdays vs. weekends. Work time vs. time off. How do you punctuate the end of the work day or work week? Weekend drives or weekend walks to new places are sometimes all we got!

We also have had to redefine the ways we look for novelty and adventure. Now our random drives to ā€œsomewhere newā€ on the weekend don’t always lead to a brewery with a view. But this was such a special treat to discover.

Hoping you find safe ways to feel like it’s the weekend and feel a little adventure. šŸ’— even in dreary February 🄶

Looking for a way to stay in and connect for Valentine’s Day? Spa day at home šŸ’—šŸ’— one of my favorite pandemic work arounds. A little cucumber water, sparkling rose, candles, cozy robes, fun face masks, and body polish. The last part inspired by such a fun spa day we had in Iceland. Fair warning, the the body polish gets MESSY! Not the same as Iceland but surprisingly fun and relaxing. The final piece, a Spotify spa day play list 😊. how will you slow down and get connected this weekend?

Amanda Gorman—the magic for me today.

On a day with a so many feels (relief, hope, anxiety, sadness, exhaustion to name a few) her words moved me the most.

We have much to do and everything won’t be different tomorrow but this felt good.

Take a break...this can be hard to do. For those those in mental healthcare this is a time when many are distressed. For those in medical healthcare, holidays rarely mean breaks. (P.s. thanks to those working on the holidays, like my hubs šŸ’—). For those who have time off, we can still get caught up in the busyness of the holiday. Take a minute, take a breath, and find a moment. Create a moment of rest, a moment of ease.

Last night was the winter solstice. For us in the northern hemisphere, our longest night. There is so much to hold right now. I hear so much exhaustion, burn out, loneliness, stress, anxiety, sadness. 2020 has demanded so much, taken so much for so many. Our cold winter is here, and all that means. There is also hope in the air trying to break through, vaccines, a new year, change in administration. Starting today, we get a little more sunlight each and every day. ā€œThe darkest hour is just before the dawn.ā€ Here’s to a little more light.

The cycle of navigating pandemic life. This is what it can feel like—and now as we go into the most intense period and we are the most fatigued, adapting and coping are so important. Yet, we are also likely to have more intense feels and fatigue. The holidays and winter months ahead will be the most challenging. But you’ve got this. Know that cycling through all these stages is normal and to be expected. It’s not linear or always in the same direction. Know that each stage will pass, and the pandemic will pass too. Be gentle with yourself. Summer 2021 is gonna be so good šŸ’—

Don’t judge yourself for your response. If you’re feeling, anxious, down, avoidant, angry, depressed, overwhelmed, numb—this is the ebb and flow of being human in all that is happening right now...Instead you can try: Self-compassion

Start with ā€œOf course I’m feeling X, Y is happening (global pandemic, fear, isolation, elimination of coping resources, scary policy&politics etc., etc., etc.,). This feeling will pass, it will also likely return as we are navigating this. But judging your response adds to your suffering. You have a right to feel to this way and we can only shift our emotions by being in them and moving through them. You don’t have to stay in them, but it’s best to honor them, hold them dear. They and you are worthy of compassion.

Beginnings of fall. We are feeling so much uncertainty this year. There is pandemic anxiety, election anxiety, a sense of never quite being here before, and unsure of what is to come.
And yet, some things we know-Seasons will change. There can be a sense of security even in the chaos. There can still be moments of beauty, peace, and joy.
In all the uncertainty what has stayed the same for you? What will remain even as the ground shifts beneath us? What are your touch points of security and stability?
