DidYouKnow: The universal myth is that you can park in front of a fire hydrant if you stay in your car or you have your emergency blinking lights on until you return to your vehicle. Wrong.

The fact is: parking in front of a fire hydrant, attended or unattended, whether you're in your car or not, IT IS ILLEGAL because it is an infringement on public safety. In most cities, including MD and VA, cars parked within 15 feet of a hydrant will be ticketed. In DC, you will be ticketed if a car is parked within 10 feet of a fire hydrant.
