Latino communities face a higher risk of Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias (ADRD) — yet too often encounter delayed diagnoses and limited access to culturally responsive care.

In the latest issue of the Journal of the National Hispanic Medical Association (JNHMA), researchers examine how insurance policies, clinic staffing, language access and time constraints shape the ability of primary care providers to deliver timely and equitable dementia care. Based on interviews with 23 PCPs nationwide, the study reveals how structural and economic barriers affect everything from diagnostic workups to follow-up support and community-based services.

The article calls for practical solutions: strengthened dementia training for PCPs, more accessible care models and culturally appropriate diagnostic tools designed to better serve Latino patients and families.
