These are just a few signs of human trafficking. With more than 1 million people in the U.S. living in modern slavery, nurses play a critical role in recognizing red flags and knowing how to respond.

Emergency and forensic nurses are often the first professionals who may encounter someone experiencing trafficking—sometimes during their only opportunity to seek help.

In honor of Human Trafficking Awareness Month, share this post with nurses in your life and learn more at Hope for Justice.

Stalking is more common than many people realize—and it rarely exists in isolation. It is often linked to sexual violence and intimate partner violence, increasing risk and limiting a survivor’s sense of safety and control.

For survivors who have experienced violence as a result of stalking, a forensic exam from DCFNE can help them regain a sense of agency by making informed choices about their health. Survivors are also offered the support of an advocate, who can help them think through safety planning and next steps.

If you have experienced stalking, support is available. Call the DC Victim Hotline at 844-443-5732 to learn about your options.
