Thank you for your generosity and support to protect health professionals in Ethiopia. We raised a little over $90,000 of our initial goal of $100,000. So far, we purchased 135 Powered Air Purifying Respirators/285 hoods ($49,776.45), and 17,340 Bacterial/Viral Filters ($18,259.02) and delivered them to Ethiopia. We also conducted webinars to educate and share information with health professionals in Ethiopia. For our efforts, we just received a Certificate of Appreciation from the Minister of Health, Dr. Lia Tadesse. See photos below. Please continue to help us reach our goal of $100,000. Our efforts have and will save lives! Thank you. https://www.gofundme.com/manage/support-ethiopia-health-workers-to-combat-covid19

Thank you for those who made donations to this important cause. (https://www.gofundme.com/manage/support-ethiopia-health-workers-to-combat-covid19/update/all) Our focus was the protection of healthcare professionals in Ethiopia. As stated earlier, healthcare professionals, particularly those in critical care and emergency departments, getting exposed and infected with COVID-19 will have a devastating effect on the country’s fragile healthcare system. For this reason, we focused on raising USD $100,000 to protect Ethiopian healthcare professionals. Through EADG’s networks of physicians and healthcare professionals, a Powered Air Purifying Respirator (PAPR) was identified in the UK and EADG placed an order for 135 complete systems ($282.38/each) and 285 hoods ($40.79/each) at a total cost of $49,746.45. The system without the hood can be used by multiple people at different times while the hood can be assigned to one person or reused by more than one person as long as it is cleaned appropriately. The PAPR, which is better than the N95 when used alone, provides particular protection to frontline health professionals who deal with patients with respiratory failure and air way management problems. It is a complete system with hood, hose, motor and HIPPA filter that would create a positive pressure inside the hood to prevent particulates from entering the breathing space. It is similar to the popular 3M product that costs almost $2,000.

There is still much more to do so our goal to raise USD$100,000 remains! Please urge your family members, friends, and colleagues to join us to protect and save healthcare professionals in Ethiopia. Let’s reach the goal by Sunday!

First, heartfelt thank you for those who have been generous with their gift. As you are witnessing the effects of COVID 19 in the US and Europe, it is not hard to imagine how devastating it can be in countries like Ethiopia. As we discuss with some of our physician colleagues back home, there is a dire shortage of basic material needs, such as PPE, ventilators, O2 supply, medication and fundamental knowledge as to how to combat this illness. In terms of knowledge transfer, we are putting together a series of online webinars to share experiences in intensive care of the sick and infection control.

The anticipated spike in serious COVID 19 cases in Ethiopia is probably few weeks out which means there is a real opportunity for us to do something tangible in preparation for this pandemic. We have raised one third of our initial goal and you can help us reach our modest goal of USD$100K. As you all know this is our first major drive for an incredibly important cause. Our parents, friends, brothers and sisters need our urgent support. We are all in this together. The pandemic has no border, but the impact in a resource and skill challenged country like Ethiopia would be devastating. Our 350 members truly appreciate your generosity to help our colleagues in Ethiopia.

Please donate for this very noble cause: https://www.gofundme.com/f/support-ethiopia-health-workers-to-combat-covid19?utm_medium=copy_link&utm_source=customer&utm_campaign=p_lico+share-sheet

Please continue to be vigilant and stay safe during this challenging time.
