From Stage Lights to Suffocating Debt and Addiction: The Hidden Cost of the Gambling Industry's Trap

One of the world’s biggest Rap artists with the stage name "Offset" was shot outside a Florida casino this week. What looked like a random act of violence was actually the fallout of a mounting storm of gambling debts.

Another artist with the stage name "Lil Baby" admitted to losing $9 MILLION in a single 40-hour period. And the Casino did nothing to stop it. He was so trapped in the cycle he had to have a CEO write letters to every casino in the country just to be permanently banned because he couldn't stop himself.

Casinos gives out loans to keep the addiction fueled, then watches as the debt turns into lawsuits, threats, and spilled blood. One casino is currently suing Offset for a six-figure credit line they handed him to fuel a single night of gambling.

This isn't a "celebrity" problem. Las Vegas values are now normalized throughout the country.

We are calling for an end to predatory casino lending and the deceptive "easy money" lies that are destroying our communities.

TAKE ACTION:

REPOST to expose the violence and suffocating debt Casinos fuel

The Aftermath: What Rhode Island Created When It Put a Casino in Every 18-Year-Old's Pocket

A first-of-its-kind college class just exposed the truth: legalized sports betting in Rhode Island has fueled a growing addiction epidemic deliberately aimed at 18-year-olds. Rhode Island is one of only six states where the legal age is 18.

This effectively turns every high school senior and college freshman into a legal target for sportsbooks.

In Professor Patrick Kelly's class "Sports Betting, Problem Gambling and Financial Wellness" students admitted to using student loan money to place bets, leading to situations where they literally cannot afford food or school expenses because the casino in their pocket emptied their bank account.

Lawmakers must step in: the gambling industry must be held accountable, and laws must be passed to protect our youth. There needs to be real consequences and change here.

Tonight’s National Championship: Drenched in Blood Money and Fueling a Youth Gambling Epidemic- Eli Thompson won’t let you ignore it

The gambling industry hooked his entire generation and now he's exposing the industry responsible for it. Yes, the industry that allows seniors in High School (18 year olds) to throw all their money away overnight.

The younger children start gambling, the more likely it is they will become habitual and problem gamblers, regardless whether they are from an urban or a suburban community.

You should be more than disturbed

You should be haunted by this

This is your America

This is what the legalization of sports betting has done and what it will continue to do to your country if we continue to allow our state representatives to partner with predatory gambling operators.

RISE UP AND SAY ENOUGH IS ENOUGH.

Nothing says 'we support women' like targeting them when they can't make rent

One female influencer claimed, "I was about to be unable to pay my rent, but I got two years of rent through Kalshi’s predictions. It’s amazing!"

This ad (later removed and used as evidence in a class-action lawsuit) shows a woman claiming a huge win that saved her from financial ruin, which the article highlights as problematic for not disclosing the life altering risks.

There are now countless social media pages dedicated to women placing bets on prediction markets.

This MUST-READ brilliantly well written The Atlantic article titled "It’s Not Gambling, It’s ‘Girl Math’" by Nancy Walecki exposes how Kalshi is now recruiting female influencers to specifically target women and get them hooked.

You all should be deeply deeply disturbed by this.

Commercialized gambling has become so normalized from state governments, advertisements and marketing in this country that it has become the public voice of the American people.

ENOUGH IS ENOUGH. THE AMERICAN PEOPLE DESERVE BETTER. STAND UP FOR WOMEN. NEVER BE SILENT.

Tag your state legislatures and representatives and let them know that Kalshi is GAMBLING before we lose the well-being of the next generation of women in this country.

Prediction markets are trying to woo women through matcha memes and ads.

🚨🚨🚨20 YEARS OF HEARTBREAK: NC Lottery Exposed as a Predatory Tax on the Poor

People are worth more than money. Families are starving while the state cashes In twenty years after selling its first ticket. North Carolina’s lottery is preying on our most vulnerable communities. New data reveals the poorest counties — the ones already struggling with poverty, unemployment, and desperation — are spending THREE TIMES more per person on lottery tickets than wealthy areas.

In Halifax County alone, families are handing over $1,334 per year — that’s over $100 a month — on false hope, while their kids go without food or heat. Only 7% of online players even use the so-called “responsible gambling” tools. Lottery officials will never tell you that. Families in North Carolina are suffering and will continue to suffer immense pain if lottery operators are not held accountable.

Repost so everyone understands what North Carolinians are going through and how lottery operators are making it hard for families to just get by. Laws must be passed to punish lottery operators that exploit our most vulnerable American citizens. There needs to be real consequences here.

People are worth so much more than money. Repost if you believe that.

An Inconvenient Truth: I Can’t Enjoy a Game Anymore Without Betting On It

Ryan Marini always loved watching sports. Now he can't enjoy watching a single game without placing a bet on it. Ryan is 19. He's in debt. A business major, he estimated he has spent between $5,000 and $10,000 gambling and told reporters he has lost more than he has won. He gambles 3 hours a day and says even losing doesn't stop him from coming back.

This is what the normalization of Sports Betting is doing to young people, especially young men like Ryan.

Lawmakers must step in: the gambling industry must be held accountable, and laws must be passed to punish companies that exploit vulnerable American citizens. There needs to be real consequences.

Christopher Sage went from betting responsibly at a brick-and-mortar parlor to gambling 24 hours a day — even while showering and at work. He lost $175,000 net after wagering over $2 million, borrowed $65,000 from family and loan sharks, had his truck repossessed, nearly lost his house, and watched his marriage and relationship with his kids crumble.

This is what DraftKings and FanDuel’s lightning-fast microbetting does to people. A 24 hour-7 days a week casino in your pocket.

Some of the key takeaways from The Boston Globes Pulitzer-worthy investigation:

1) Gambling commissions go to great lengths to create the appearance that citizens are being "protected" with expensive programs like GameSense but it's a sham. "Yet a decade after GameSense was launched, and after more than $20 million in state outlays....it cannot point to any data demonstrating that it has reduced problem gambling statewide."

2) On the same day this Globe story ran, it ran another story on how property taxes are surging in the state. Yet the primary reason why the institution of predatory gambling exists is the claim that it's a good source of govt revenue. Who is financially benefiting from all of the massive human suffering that predatory gambling is inflicting upon tens of millions of Americans?

3) If any other ethnic group in America today was exploited and manipulated like the way gambling operators do to Asian-Americans, there would be a national outcry. It's racial-profiling, casino style.

Other major findings Part III by :

-A former security guard: "Patrons who appeared to be loan sharks were left alone, as well as those who showed obvious signs of compulsive gambling behavior, he said. Even patrons who had gambled continuously for 48 hours or more – to the point of soiling themselves – were left alone, he said. “No one was ever banned for gambling usage,” Santer said.'"

-"To bolster its case that it is confronting problem gambling, the MA Gambling Commission has long pointed to GameSense, a program designed to curb compulsive betting at the state’s three licensed casinos."...."Yet a decade after GameSense was launched, and after more than $20 million in state outlays, the nonprofit that runs the program still cannot point to any data demonstrating that it has reduced problem gambling statewide."

-"In 2022, a team of gambling researchers at Carleton University in Ottawa surveyed 1,109 regular casino patrons in Massachusetts and found that only 16 percent had ever spoken to a GameSense agent. Of these, nearly 80 percent reported having simple interactions with agents about issues that were unrelated to gambling, according to the analysis."

Other major findings by the The Boston Globe investigation released today:

-"Fifty-two times a day, Encore’s 32-seat buses arrive like clockwork near the Chinatown gateway..."

-"Court records indicate the extent of the Encore’s lending operation – and some of its grimmer consequences. More than 300 Massachusetts residents have been sued by New England’s largest casinos ... in the past two decades. Those sued include engineers, schoolteachers, and restaurant owners, according to court documents and interviews with borrowers."

-"The vast majority of the time, casinos recover these past-due loans – plus interest and fees, court documents show. That’s partly because the nation’s large casinos have data-mining tools that give them rare insight into the creditworthiness of their customers..."

-"The state Attorney General’s Gambling Enforcement Division, which is charged with investigating and prosecuting gambling offenses, has filed charges against just one alleged loan shark since the unit was created in 2013, according to a Globe review of state indictments"

More than 80 percent of those sued by Encore for gambling debts are people of Asian descent.
