A few years ago, if someone had told me my journey in medicine would take me across three countries, I probably wouldn’t have believed it.
I started my journey in Pakistan with a dream of becoming a doctor and making a meaningful impact in healthcare. Like many international medical students, I then moved abroad to pursue my medical education in Kyrgyzstan. Living there was more than just studying medicine. It was learning how to adapt to a new culture, building independence, and forming friendships with people from around the world. I became the President of the Student Council, founded and worked in many student organizations, guided and helped many medical students, made mistakes and learned from them.
Those years taught me resilience. Being far from home forces you to grow in ways you never expect.
Today, I’m in the United States pursuing my Master of Public Health. This chapter has opened doors to research, leadership opportunities, and incredible mentorship that continues to shape my career goals.
Looking back, this journey has not always been easy. There were moments of uncertainty, challenges, and hard work. But every step from Pakistan to Kyrgyzstan to the United States has played a role in shaping who I am today.
It reminds me that sometimes the path to your goals is not a straight line, but the experiences along the way make the journey meaningful.
Grateful for the mentors, colleagues, and friends who have supported me along the way. And excited for what lies ahead.
