👁️ First-Time Contact Wearers: What to Expect at Your Exam 👁️

Thinking about contacts for the first time? Here’s how a first-time contact lens exam works at Normandy Optical — so you can feel confident every step of the way!

✨ Step 1: Your Eye Exam
When you come in for a first-time contact lens exam, this visit is in addition to your regular annual eye exam.
Your doctor will:
-Check your vision
-Examine the overall health of your eyes

✨ Step 2: Choosing the Right Contact
Your doctor will talk with you about which type of contact lenses may work best for your eyes and lifestyle, such as:
-Daily, 2-week, or monthly lenses
-Single vision, multifocal, or monovision

✨ Step 3: Trial Lenses & Contact Class
Once you and your doctor decide on the best option:
-Trial contact lenses are ordered just for you
-You’ll return for a contact lens class with one of our contact lens specialists
-You’ll learn proper care for your specific lenses
-We’ll teach you how to insert and remove your contacts

✨ Step 4: Take Them Home & Try Them Out
As long as you’re comfortable inserting and removing the lenses:
-You’ll go home with trial contacts to wear for about a week
-This allows you and the doctor to see if any tweaks are needed

✨ Step 5: Finalizing Your Prescription
If everything feels great:
-The doctor finalizes your contact lens prescription
-We’ll order your contacts for you

✨ Insurance, Discounts & Rebates
One of our opticians will happily:
-Review your insurance benefits

👓 What to Expect When You Pick Up Your New Glasses
We get asked this a lot, so we wanted to walk you through what happens after you get the call that your glasses are ready at Normandy Optical.

Here’s what to expect when you come in to pick them up 👇

✔️ Please bring the patient with you
Whether the glasses are for a child or an adult, the person wearing them needs to be present. We adjust the glasses to the wearer to ensure the best comfort and vision.

✔️ Custom fitting & adjustments
We’ll adjust your frames so they sit comfortably on your face—because glasses should feel good and work properly.

✔️ Learning how to use your new glasses
We’ll go over how to wear them, care for them, and answer any questions you have so you feel confident leaving our office.

✔️ Give yourself time to adjust
It’s completely normal for a new prescription to take a few days to adjust, especially if:
-You’re wearing progressive lenses
-You have a higher prescription
-There was a big change from your previous RX
Your eyes and brain are learning something new—patience is key!

✔️ Tip that really matters
When we ask you to look through lenses during pickup, make sure you’re using both eyes together.
Your prescription was finalized with both eyes open, so no covering one eye or the other.

✔️ Ask all the questions
Seriously—don’t hesitate. Whether this is your first pair of glasses or your 100th, we’re here to help every step of the way.
