Happy Fact-Finding Friday! 👁️Let’s clear the air about a common misconception surrounding dry eye disease.
❌ Myth: If you have watery eyes, you can’t have dry eye disease.
✅ Fact: While dry eye can occur due to insufficient tear production, it can develop even when your eyes produce plenty of tears, particularly when their quality is compromised.
Your tears are made up of three essential layers: water, oil, and mucus. Together, they make up a healthy tear film, which keeps your eyes lubricated, smooth, and clear. When one of these layers is missing or out of balance, your tears evaporate too quickly or do not spread evenly over your cornea, causing a gritty sensation, blurry vision, and redness.
