About Mind.Body.Birth...
I created Mind.Body.Birth with the belief that the mind plays an integral role during birth and can have a profound effect on the body. Support and comfort during birth allows the mind and body to function at their best. This harmony not only improves outcomes, but encourages a safe, beautiful, and calm birth for both mom and baby. About Me...
Philosophy:
I consider myself a birth advocate in that I believe that women should have a voice during their births and should play an active role in their care. I think informed consent needs to include emphasis on being informed, that both the pros and cons of interventions should be seriously considered when they are not medically necessary, and that there should be open discourse about possible side-effects. I am by no means “anti-medical” and am very thankful we have the technology that we do when something truly goes wrong during birth. I believe that having an informed and assertive advocate during birth is instrumental in striving for a safe and gentle birth. I thoroughly look forward to providing that support to other women to help ensure that one of the most important events in their life is also the most joyous. Background:
My journey to birth work and midwifery has been a winding one! Pre children I loved science and healthcare, and have background in both. After the birth of my first 2 children, I found my passion. Birth work and midwifery encompasses my love of caring for others alongside many of my other strengths and passions (education, clinical skills, community building, etc). Timeline:
- 2011 - Began offering doula services
- 2012 - Began offering Hypnobabies Childbirth classes
- 2013 - A fellow mom friend and I founded the Central Missouri Babywearers and had the joy of teaching babywearing within the central Missouri community for 3 years
- 2016 - Embarked on my midwifery journey at Birthwise Midwifery School in Maine
- 2021 - Completion of midwifery preceptorship with Salmonberry Birth Center and Graduation from Birthwise Midwifery School
- 2021 - Office Manager, Support Midwife, and birth assistant as part of the True North Birth Center team
- 2022 - Returned to home state of Missouri, opening MindBodyBirth midwifery practice and birth services in Washington, MO

Often families ask, “When do you cut the cord?”
My response, “when you are tired of carting around a placenta” 😂

In all seriousness, we don’t typically cut the cord until you’ve birthed your placenta and, if the vessels are still visible after birth of placenta, we are patient for baby to get their full blood volume.

This is what WE mean when we say delayed cord clamping. This is routine for us at the Motherhip Birth Center. Let’s let baby have all of their blood volume.

So thrilled for my midwife colleagues in WA state 🙌🏻! This is a win for common sense policy surrounding birthing options (previously families could plan a VBAC home birth, but did not have legal access to VBAC in a birth center).

WE are THRILLED to announce that due to a change in State of Washington regulations, I am now able to offer VBAC in a freestanding birth center, The Birth Cottage in Enumclaw, WA. After decades of work for freedom in birth choices, this is a HUGE WIN for women and families in WA and beyond.
-
Guidelines:
-1 previous cesarean
-Meets criteria for out of hospital delivery
-Self pay for the birth fee but we are able to bill private insurance for prenatal and postpartum care.
-Immediate openings available.
-DM for more info.

YES, you can even come here from another state to deliver.

From Empowered Health:
“Happening tomorrow in Washington!!!

Hannah Byers is local Psych Nurse Practitioner Student. She is opening a practice up in January in town! She is hosting an event tomorrow about postpartum mental health! See information below!👇👇👇👇👇

Perinatal mood and anxiety disorders are the most common complications of pregnancy and postpartum, but the good news is support and healing are possible.

Join us on Saturday, September 28 from 11 AM – 2 PM at the KC Hall for the Climb for Postpartum Support International (PSI).

This special event is a chance to:

Connect with others who understand

Access local mental health and wellness resources

Learn about midwifery care, pelvic floor PT, ShowMe Therapy, and lactation support

Build community and raise awareness for parents everywhere

This is a family-friendly gathering—because mental health matters and no one should struggle alone.

Let’s climb together. Let’s shine light on the journey!”
