February is Black History Month, and 2026 marks 100 years of national Black history commemorations. This centennial celebrates the visionaries who advance equality and preserve the history of Black Americans, and the moments that continue to shape progress today. As we celebrate, learn some key historical moments that advance our world.

1964: The Civil Rights Act of 1964 outlaws discrimination and reshapes civil rights protections nationwide.

1968: The Fair Housing Act of 1968 prohibits discrimination in the sale, rental, or financing of housing.

1981: Dr. Alexa Canady becomes the first Black woman neurosurgeon in the U.S., advancing excellence and representation in medicine.

2013: The founding of Black Lives Matter reframes global conversations around justice, dignity, and the value of Black lives.

2016: Smithsonian's National Museum of African American History and Culture opens in Washington DC, cementing Black history as central to the American story.

We're thrilled to introduce our newest Community Relations Manager at Ovation Sienna Hills, Brian Riddle!

Brian brings over a decade of experience in hospice and home health, with a lifelong passion for supporting families through aging and end-of-life care. His career has included roles as an ordained chaplain, bereavement counselor, volunteer coordinator, and patient advocate. A strong believer in teamwork and positive culture, he’s committed to being a trusted resource for seniors, families, and professionals throughout the community.

Originally from California’s high desert, Brian spent several years in Michigan before settling in St. George, which he has proudly called home for just over a year. He enjoys exploring Southern Utah with his three children through off-roading, fishing, and outdoor adventures. He is also a fan of golfing and watching hockey.

We’re excited to have Brian on our team and look forward to the meaningful impact he’ll make in helping seniors thrive at Ovation Sienna Hills.

Over the weekend, our HR Director Reese took on the Dragon Stair Challenge — 333 stairs straight up the side of a mountain! 💪🐉

What made this moment especially meaningful is that Reese was the first recipient of the Stan Davis Legacy Award. Stan was a beloved longtime Memory Care resident at Ovation, a triathlete, and a true “try anything” kind of guy. His legacy award was created to get people moving by covering race entry fees for those who might not otherwise participate.

Reese climbed in Stan’s honor, and we couldn’t be prouder of the heart, determination, and spirit behind this challenge. ❤️👏

Our residents at Ovation are always reaching new heights! 🎈✨

This past Friday, two of our Independent Living residents took to the skies as part of the Up and Away Hot Air Balloon Festival. They enjoyed an incredible one-hour balloon ride, traveling more than 15 miles above the landscape — and they didn’t stop there! Before and after the flight, they rolled up their sleeves and helped crew the hot air balloon, assisting with inflation and pack-up.

Way to go, ladies! Here's to adventure, teamwork, and unforgettable memories at Ovation. 💛👏

We were thrilled to have the amazingly talented students from Utah Tech University's dance team, Fusion, perform for us. These students have performed around the world and are currently preparing for a trip to Spain.

Happy Martin Luther King, Jr. Day! Each January, we honor Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s enduring legacy of service and advocacy. A central leader of the American Civil Rights Movement, Dr. King dedicated his life to advancing justice, equality, and unity.

Here are a few important moments from Dr. King’s life:

✅1944: Dr. King enrolled at Morehouse College at 15 years old. He earned his PhD in systematic theology in 1955 at Boston University.
✅1963: He organized the historic March on Washington, a peaceful demonstration of the injustices faced by Black Americans nationwide.
✅1964: Dr. King earned the Nobel Peace Prize for his powerful activism against racism and the movement for equality.

Today as we reflect on Dr. King’s legacy, we are reminded of the importance of serving others and treating all people with dignity and respect.
