Considering Laser Hair Removal?
Here’s a few things to know:
1. It’s a process. While the actual laser session doesn’t take long, you want to be committed to returning for regularly scheduled visits. Hair follicles grow at different stages so it’s important that all the hair follicles are zapped.
2. Prepare the area in advance by shaving. This is extremely important to do otherwise you will have to have a quick shave with a disposable at the clinic. The laser works best directly on the skins surface as it needs to pe*****te the root of the hair. Plus, you don’t want to have to deal with the burnt hair smell.
3. Do not use any lotions, creams or deodorants prior to coming in for your laser treatment.
4. It’s private. You are in a medical treatment room with your medical provider and you are properly draped. Yes, at first it can be awkward, but at The Med Spa we make every effort to make you comfortable.
5. You want to avoid the sauna, hot tub, and long baths for 24 hours after your treatment because the heat from the laser stays in your skin and can be a warm breeding ground for bacteria picked up in one of these areas.
6. Laser sounds painful but isn’t terribly. While there is a bit of discomfort, for most it is easily bearable. Ice packs are an option to cool the area, however remember to never place them directly on the skin.
7. If you use products with retinol, Alfa hydroxy acid, or glycolic acid you may need to talk to your provider about the types of skin care products you use and when you can use them before/after treatments.
8. Know your medications! If you are currently taking any photosensitive medications you will want to discuss your options with your provider to ensure your laser treatment is the safest and most effective for you.
9. After treatment while outside use sunscreen, yes, even in winter. Protect your skin!
